Its not going to make a difference as lon g as people can click through.. its the same problem with dig. You can make a submission and then point a few links at that submissions page to get that page to rank.

Essentially yes because the other sphinn ( which I haven’t read other than the sphinn blurb) is based on the premise of an experiment not a flame. Sphinning a blatant flame holds the sphinn to a different set of merits... things like: are the people important enough for me to read it? Is the flame entertaining? Do I give a damn about these people? Had the other sphinn been entitled "person XXX is an idiot" AND I had noticed it I would have desphunn that to. OR had this sphinn been under the premise of "Why MM experiment is broken" then I would have not even bothered to even notice it to desphinn it. Basically the set of criteria people use to judge the worthiness of a sphinn is determined by how you frame the issue presented.

If I had read it I would of. Personally I don’t care if flames are posted on here with one caveat. It should be entertaining or involving someone notable.

Save the flamewar bs for your own site unless its good. This stuff is just crap and irrelevent to everyone but the parties involved. For a good example of sphinn worthy flamewars read DaveN’s blog or some old threadwatch stuff.

The great thing about Dougy is that he always makes for a decent blog topic on a slow news day.

Its really unfortunate that Threadwatch closed... since its closing I haven’t really found an online community that I enjoy as much. The beauty of Threadwatch was for the most part bad ideas were punished and the community commentary top notch and original.

What Rand said... its really alarming the crud they think you should tell them. IMO you should lie and tell them it was a company that already has a bad reputation and go from there.

I’m a veteran too and frankly I am sick of all the support the troops rhetoric. Support them, don’t support them.. I don’t give a crap... just don’t spit on them.

Gavin, I agree with the sentiment you expressed that post. Your post was listed the way it was as a bit of a joke.. so I think you “get it” just fine ;-) Thank you for leaving the comment on my blog as well.

This is no diffrent than the pranks of Alan Abel. http://alanabel.com/index2.phpHe convinced journos that there were people who wanted clothes for animals because of the obscenity of naked animals. 40 yearsa ago! Journalists should be held accountable for fact checking... thats there damn job. They know damn well that stuff like this is fake... they choose to ignore it for their own ends.

How could you possibally combine two companies that seem so different and are so large? Its sure to be bloody and painful. Is there anything comparable to this for software/media companies?
