I don’t even know where to start, for I applaud this post. Thank you for sharing...As an SEO I think we all learn from sharing, and not just the general stuff - thats what is wrong with us, we all think we got some secret but we actually really rely on one another. If Matt Cutts decideds to devalue these links or not let them pass juice anymore that is the name of the game, then again if you are gaining rankings by something that "others don’t know" then doesnt that tactic eventually get found out anyway and devalued once it becomes more common knowledge?I might have 10 years in the biz, but I am still a ROOKIE and always will be, the industry changes too much, look at how people like Gab who show up on teh scene and post great stuff over and over again - he’s got tenacity and that matters more in SEO then tenure. Sure tenure has some value, but I’ll take tenacity anyday!I can’t agree more that someone posts something of quality and gets bashed, what gives guys?? This resources becomes less useful if no one is willing to share what they know. Had teh original poster gotten this infor from some insider and didn’t credit them I know be pretty pissed, but I say thank you for sharing. This was a good tip!As for divulging secrets leading to you making your own job harder and taking $$ vfrom you, that is NOT true. I find that I have attained more clients because we do get results, but we also are the type of company that believes that the more we share the more we get back, I for one would follow this original poster on twitter and other places, and heck if I kept seeing stuff like this I’d probably refer them at some point which is MORE business not less. Not to mention, the giving principle tells me that the more I give the more obligated others feel to help me out, and i have found that to be true, so again this OP would be the type of person I would show something we are building / working on to because he is showing a desire to also share quality stuff.Please don’t take one or two people as indicative of all of us. I remember when someone "shared" jimforums with me back in 98/99 and I found all kinds of wonderful people sharing things about this "SEO business" they helped me and gave me what they knew and it helped me tremendously, you better bet that every time I could I would try to help them out b/c I felt like I owed thems something for helping me out so much.Share, you’ll get more back then you ever imagined.

Being that I was there, I actually know what was said, and I bet if Li said - hey links don’t matter you woudl have heard an uproar - instead the disucssion was about the influence that links having on rankings, and how the value of links in the algo’s may change.Tabke’s got the video, that would settle this.

This is why awards don’t mean squat Jill!! The important thing is that we need to educate all people that these awards are often BULL, being in SEMPO doesn’t mean anything more than you paid right? Not to pick on SEMPO, but I think the perception of many people is oh if you company is:SempoGoogle certifiedTopSEOs ratedawardawardawardThat you are good, that is just flat wrong, so how can we educate people to not over hype the importance of these things?

Start asking, my flight is delayed 100 minutes - I’ll break it all down.I have a new client who competes with tero.ca As part of my research I was seeing who was in their landscape, that is how I found tera.co I posted the find to my twitter on July 7th Obviously I don’t have too much to learn from that site - so I haven’t visited it since. Fast forward to today, I am on Google Knol doing some research on it like any good SEO should. I was not logged into my google account at the time. I decided to do that query based on an article I read on blogoscoped I saw that page with the ad for tero.caBased on seeing that Ad I deduced the following:1 - There has to be some behavioral element at play because I haven’t been to that site in 17 days2 - The ad was TOTALLY unrelated to the content3 - Google has the ability to target ads based on the content of a page (adsense)4 - So why would I see an unrelated ad for a site I was on 17 days ago?Please shoot holes in this theory, I want to figure out how I culd be wrong.

To add a solution to this issue, when I meet groups of people I always say, hey I know this space is full of a lot of BS so let me be your filter, just check out my delicious URL, I read through the crap and only add the good stuff. I think we’ll see more people opening up their bookmarks which should back up where people get tehir info from for many things they say are truth. I know I miss a lot there, but at least for what I can read I try to do my part.While I am no ballerific SEO, I try to do my part to share with everyone I meet the ability to use the fact that I have to sort through the BS to find the good stuff as a filter for them.How else do you guys help solve the problem of BS SEO recommendations / myths?

I couldn’t agree more!Usability / Analytics isn’t as sexy as SEO and as such many folks spend too much in SEO first THEN do the usability / analytics AFTER the SEO doesn’t convert. Wrong way to look at it.

Funny, this sprung up...I think that the liveblogging gets you so much of the info, but something about the meetings and shaking hands.Shoot, I still remember gettig giddy to talk to Aaron and Rand at the last pubcon. I am thrilled to be taking some of my folks along so they can experience the same thing.The personal connections and conversations tend to be more and more of the value in my honest opinion!
