This was so annoying. I hope they do fix it, or just notify you once -- it is nice to get notified :)
Hilarious! Where's the slimy blog spammer who says "hey man, nice post" when I'm a girl?
My least favorite is the Skype creeps. Seriously it feels like such an invasion of privacy.
I think Google made a poor choice naming this "Knol"
I just searched for "Knol" in Google, and the KNOL stock ticker appears at the top, then news results for Knol (this could be skewed for relevance because of Google announcing it yadda yadda thinks its important and then the news results will appear lower again), then Google Blog, then Wikipedia's entry for Knol, and then, finally Knol!
Not the best user experience for those looking for the site.
Also, when you type in "Google shopping" or "googe blogs" to get the sub-search engines, they are also not the top results.
I'm just sayin...
I agree. I think it's dispicable that good Internet marketing brains are applied to such low schemes. Some of these services charge a fee to get your negative listing removed -- that's kinda blackmail.
I had about 50 followers added within 2 minutes a couple days ago, which I thought was suspicious, and then lost over 100 followers overnight, or about 15% of my followers. I figured there was a spam influx and then it corrected itself, and maybe that happened across the board?
And yeah, I haven't seen updates in a while from certain folks and thought maybe they lost interest in tweeting. But it could be we've been disconnected. It's a heck of a pain to manage your followers though, once you get over 100 followers, clicking through your pages just doesn't cut it...
What happens when spammy people are the first movers for a topic, and set the control that they have the right to moderate any entries?
Can there be duplicate entries for one topic?
PS Canadians and non-US residents can't verify identity. Lame.
I wonder what kind of reaction Yahoo expected from search marketing professionals. It is quite insulting.

I love how easy it is to implement GA on Drupal, the module takes care of everything so you can cross off "forgot to tag pages" from the list!!
I totally loved this vid, and can't wait for the Weezer Plaid album to come out
Darren's such a humble, lovable guy I can't imagine anyone getting mad about it :)
Amen! I've experienced trying to optimize a site that the web designer tried to optimize, plus it was a proprietary CMS and you couldn't even control title tag text! It also took several months to finally get that web designer to set up redirects from non-www to www. (The CMS gave the end user so little access and control it was very sad). The client didn't want the designer to know they had hired an SEO on top of their work, either. Not sure why that was such an issue, the designer should be made aware that his work was crap :)
ha ha Disco Stu, I get it ;-)
Fuzzy - that goes well with your branding, doesn't it?
They were chosen from Twitter, StumbleUpon and MyBlogLog, mostly. The idea was about personal branding through the avatar, and these examples fit with the analysis of the companion post "Is it Time To Break Up With Your Avatar" - there are different strategies you can use to stand out. Putting "standouts" together makes it harder to stand out. Of course there are amazing avatars that got missed and it's subjective, it's like picking "the best blog posts of the year" or the "50 most beautiful people" :) We'd love if you have your own favorites for what makes a great avatar and why and drop them in the comments.
I have to disagree with this article, unfortunately. Google did announce it will treat subdomains like subfolders to combat the spam techniques and ranking effects of, say, ebay subdomains as commented above.

However, I haven't seen this in practice yet, I still see multiple subdomains appearing from ebay for certain searches. Perhaps it's a rollout.
Now, if subdomains and subfolders are treated the same, then link juice *should* also flow between them.
One benefit of subfolders, though, is you don't have to add and verify them separately in Google Webmaster Tools - which, if you have a lot of subdomains (country/language/product etc) can save you a bit of time.
