Good post. Misleading title. I think it's way beyond "Digg favorites" as you can see....
Hey - thanks for the submit Stoney. Shannon listened to Chris Sherman's excellent Search Marketing Now webcast last week and this is her take on it....
Thanks for the mention and submit Cam.
I've talked to this reporter for many years and it's always been about the paid side of things (that's what 'investors' care about) and different moves by GOOG, YHOO, etc. But then he went on vacation recently and started talking to the dive company he used in South Africa and was amazed that they got all of their business from SEO. So he was fascinated with this and what it means for the search engines' business/revenues/etc. I always like to see SEO get any coverage in the main stream media.
Thanks Tim, I appreciate it..
"If Jason Calacanis Thinks that SMO Is B.S., Why Is Mahalo Gaming Digg?"
Excellent question...
Hi qwerty - the best way is to use the contact form (bottom right corner of the footer). For the issue choose "Report Spam" and just give a link to the suspect story. That will then go out to all the mods and one of us will get on it as soon as possible.
Thanks!
Hi Zachary -
When people violate the submission guidelines, they are dealt with as quickly as possible (as will the case with the submissions you are refferring to. The best thing that the community can do is to keep reporting spam when you see it (thanks!) so that we can deal with it quickly.
Thanks Michael - education is a completely different story and extremely important. Good to have you here :)
Nice post CK.
I have too many social media accounts to name but I haven't used any of these aggregators but then again I am pretty paranoid with these things and don't want any having access to my stuff (especially on a mass level)...
And thanks for being one of those 13 Todd ;)
The community is all about giving back and it shows..
BTW - I am curious. How many sphinners will be coming to SMX Social Media? Or how many will just be able to make it to the IMNY Charity Party?
I hope so - anything to get that stock to move up would be nice :)
Nice job Todd (and everyone who participated) - you had a nice cross-section of people in there...
Adam, the person who wrote this, is only 12 years old and yet understands reddit better than almost anyone I have ever spoken to...
@justin - yes supposedly they do take the feedback into account so you should definitely let your opinion be known. It's also a big selling point for the advertisers to get feedback on their ads in basically real time...
Hi planetc1 - it's actually much easier then you would imagine. It's all about networking, networking, networking...
You can also find the stuff that is about to go popular here: http://www.sphinn.com/upcoming/most this helps to cut down on some of the clutter that you might see in /upcoming...

"This should REALLY be in water cooler instead of social media."
Agreed Maki - I switched the category on it.
As I just told you Chris - great job with this. It will be a great help for people building up (or maintaining) a power account..
Interesting article but jut to be clear on two of the sites mentioned (that they don't ever make the homepage on digg):
Little Green Footballs has actually made the Digg homepage many times: http://digg.com/search?s=littlegreenfootballs.com&submit=Search§ion=all&type=url&area=promoted&sort=new
Same is true with DumbLittleMan: http://digg.com/search?s=dumblittleman.com&submit=Search§ion=all&type=url&area=promoted&sort=new (last being just 8 days ago)
Also - I wouldn't say that being on the homepage of niche sites are better but rather a good complement to Digg... If I had the choice between Digg or 10 niche sites - 9.9 out of 10 times I would choose Digg.
Good points though pointing out some of the benefits of niche sites . BTW - dzone is great. They consistently send traffic to your site (even months later). Not a whole lot but its quality.
Yeah - the way I see it Netscape never had a real direction for how they wanted to run it. At first it was extremely easy for things to get to the homepage - then it became extremely hard as they were extremely paranoid about spam and would ban accounts at will (Michael we have discussed that extensively) - then it reverted back to being super easy again (as you can see by just looking at the homepage today).
The domain that Tamar is writing about is 10e20.com (mine) and has basically been on auto-bury since I wrote this post: http://www.10e20.com/blog/2007/03/06/how-to-become-a-digg-top-user-without-doing-anything-shady/. That post was submitted to Digg and got over 900 diggs - it was about building up your account and making it more powerful (without doing it in a shady way). But as Tamar points out, since that time everything else has been on "auto-bury" even though many of the posts were easily coasting to the homepage...
From my perspective, it seems like anytime you write anything that could mildly be perceived as 'gaming' digg and especially if you do anything at all SEO related to boot - you risk the auto-bury....
I still love Digg and as many of you who know me can attest - sings its praises as a marketing tool and community in general but they really need to address this issue as a whole - once and for all.
Great post Tamar. It will be interesting to see if they respond...
Tom - It actually got submitted twice (basically at the same time) and there is actually one still going (for now at least)...
