Haha. I am not trying to indict anyone. I just get annoyed when I see so much spam here and it has been getting worse. I am not trying blame anyone except the spammers but I want to start a dialog to see if there are some additional spam protection options that could be implemented.
Keep up the good work and I will keep sending the reports to you.

Thanks Brent. Yeah, I am sure as Sphinn becomes more popular it will face more and more spamming.
Story: Another Sphinn Spam Rant
g1smd, please don't take this as an attack on the anyone here. We should all be in this together and it comes down to everyone doing their part. I am confident that a huge part of the spam issue is that many members simply ignore it, which needs to change. However, when I see the same spam post here for more than 24 hours it gets pretty irritating. If I could report things more than once (wait, can I do that) I would and I am trying to call out all Sphinners to report Spam when they see it. I want this to continue being a quality resource for SEO/SEM and if everyone in this community works together it can.
Blatant comment spam with link drops (nofollowed no less) on Sphinn, really???!!!!
Yeah, I plan on attending SMX East this year and I am hoping to find some more advanced sessions.
Utah: True, he's got the double negative (so I suppose it ends up as a positive).
James: Pure evil
Gab: Yeah, when you are intimate with the law you know all the ways to be shady while staying legal.
Glendz, that would depend. If there are other more important factors that can be fixed those should be done first. Also, if there are egregious errors that break the crawler you should clean those up. After the important stuff is done you can go back and clean up the code. It won't hurt and may make things easier for the crawlers but there are many more important things to work on before you start worrying about validation.
It sure is not hurting Wikipedia and other large sites who use no follow on pages that they do not want to push page rank to. Maybe the engines do devalue those pages for their own purposes but if you are passing page rank to them you are still limiting the amount of page rank that you can send to other more important pages. Matt Cutts stated that it is a good (yet highly grainular) way to control the flow of page rank througout your site and I think he has a pretty decent idea about how Google works.
How long was your PR 0? It's possible that it dropped because Google was in the middle of a TBPR update. PR drops and increases seem to be fairly common during an update and then they eventually settle to the new TBPR score.
I agree with you Mario. I have no desire to see him denigrate me or the industry in which I work just to stoke for his massive ego. If nobody shows up then nobody will hear what he has to say and he will not get the desired outcome (which is to get more people talking about him).
Thanks. I figured that it may have been something like that. I assumed that it would remain in the category to which it was submitted and not just disappear though. OH well, just thought it was strange and now I know the reason.
Thanks everyone.
Story: Scam or not: 1on40.com
Wow. I read the exchange at scam.com and even if they were not a scam (which they surely) are I would never do business with them. Their representative is insane.
Yeah Shady. Good question. I would think that it would since it really adds no value.
Thanks Gypsy. With the trade deadline insanity yesterday I had hockey on my mind. Now I am ready for the playoffs to start.
Well, Hossa went to Pittsburgh and was promptly injured in his first game. Oh, and Minnesota traded for Simon for some reason.
Yeah, I agree with you John with one caveat. Google hit the sites offering those other methods not the site getting the link. I think the author raises a valid point about Google penalizing the site to which the sponsored themes are linked. Although I believe in this case the site that was penalized was involved in a number of additional spammy techniques and the cumulative effect is what tanked them. If Google takes multiple factors into account and inbound links are but one factor I am fine with it. If they start whacking sites for inbound links only I think they are opening a can of worms that could create huge issues (and a new market for less scrupulous marketers/spammers).
Story: Is Izmocars Spamming Us?
Until Google starts actually taking action on the site that is buying links I don't think buying/getting directory links is necessarily dangerous. It may be a waste of time but it will not have a negative impact on your site. Most likely there will be no impact whatsoever. Right now the link sellers/directories are bearing the brunt of Google's campaign and the fact is if they start whacking those who are buying the links they will open themselves to some serious issues. After all if they start penalizing those buying directory links there will be plenty of unscrupulous people who will start buying these links for their competitors.
You are right. I took a quick look at his blog and every post is ripped off from somewhere else. It's obvious he reads Sphinn and just grabs the top posts. He does not even hide that he is stealing content because he notes the original source (of course without a link to that source). Weak.
I really liked the bookie breakdown of the game too. Jaan is also an expert in that area along with his SEO expertise.
I have been running some tests on it and I really like the information it provides. I have experienced a few errors, which is to be expected, and I assume they will get straightened out. All in all I like what I see from it so far.
Yeah Patrick, I think that is probably the case because I have been able to run a few reports but I am getting bombarded with errors too. Another issue that I am seeing is that when I am able to run a report it asks me to download the Firefox extension to get the full report even though I have already downloaded and installed it. I have actually done this multiple times. If it completed a report it asks me to install it. When I do it either errors out and does not finish the report or shows me the detailed information. If I try to follow that up with another report I get the same message asking me to install the extansion again (if the report completes). I sent in a bug report and I will wait to see if this stuff gets cleaned up. I think it has a lot of potential if these issues get fixed.
You are welcome. I thought it was an interesting post and a testament to how much things have changed in just the last 30 years.
