F*** the Digg spammers! I bet they know about this and get paid for it. Matt Cutts, where are you now when we need you?

We'll see more and more of that kind of censorship. Australia wants to implement Chines style Internet filtering, Germany censors Google all the time etc.

The report spam button is working fine. As far as I know just 2 or 3 reports hide such a submission automatically.

Sadly there are also false positives. A post of mine on SEOptmise has apparently been deleted:
http://www.seoptimise.com/blog/2008/11/keyword-research-7-keyword-modifiers-to-optimise-new-websites-for.html

When you submit it you get "This link is no longer valid."

Good summary. It's not only about rankings though. The definition is outdated.

Basically bigger SEO companies have a whole SEO team consisting of e.g. a:

  • SEO manager
  • SEO programmer
  • SEO copywriter
  • Link builder
  • Web analatics pro
  • Blogger
So saying link builders are not SEOs is like saying apples are not trees.

Yeah, Hugg has been dead for a while. There is a better alternative though that's mentioned in the post:

Yeah, this is waht I'm saying all along: The bigger the company the worse the SEO. Most rely too much on branding etc.

Wow. I knew McCain is "aware of the Internet" but he's obviosly not aware of SEO. At the same time Obama uses all the cutting edge SEO 2.0 methods:

Ah come on Skitzzo, this post misses the point completely. The better is the enemy of the good. Forums were great in 2004, 2005 and even in 2006, but blogs are better since then.

I think the problem is that the Google algo is flawed right now favoring old sites and sites with too targeted anchor text. Also they seem not to be able to grasp relevancy in a semantic sense. A site like SEOmoz or SEO Book or even my blog ;-) linked from numerous relevant and topical sources even wothout the anchor text in question should rank higher for the keywords they are displaying.

Right now Google favors outdated "authority" sites while my blog still is nowhere to be found just due to it being "only" 1 year old and not doing "link building" with targeted anchor texts.

I have to admit, this is quite a funny thread. Rankings are indeed just a factor or a secondary metric. If there is no ROI then the metrics do not make sense. You can't convince me though in thousand years that it does not matter that not a single valuable resource or site is ranking in the top 5 for  SEO company, SEO AND serach engine optimization. Especially as most people new to the topic will find and check out exactly those few and then assume that SEO is a load of crap.

It seems the "I don't care" mindset is very common. It's truly bizarre that of all industries out there the SEO industry is not capable to optimize their search results.

john: This is exactly what noobs ask me "but isn't SEO manipulation?" No, it's optimization.

You're in Russia, aren't you? So next time you're around here (Berlin) we'll do that. We might even drink some Vodka or a White Russian :-)

WordPress optimizes for both blog and "free blog". For "free blog" it's #2 behind Google. I wonder why it's not included for blog, not at all.
