Great list. Not to be a shameless pimp of my own post, but speaking of SEO tools... here's one for geeks like me: http://sphinn.com/story/59457
Story: The Doug Heil Movement
Well written and insightful Todd, well done.
Hamlet rocks! Loved chatting with him at SMX, we didn't get to hear his entire presentation because of time constraints, but I had some interesting discussions at the hotel with him. Tons of great ideas!
Thanks for the sphinns and comments all!
@SlightlyShadySEO good point, I should change that in my post. It's not accurate to say "maybe the contact page should be findable in google" since as you point out, nofollowing at the link level is not the same as excluding the content.
@Harith thanks for the comments. I think it's great you're thinking of new principles to add. On the Webmaster Guidelines addition, I agree with Jill. Abiding by a personal/professional standard makes things like the Google Guidelines sort of obsolete. It's definitely good to be aware of them, and I cite that document regularly. But it's just as Jill says - what did we do before Google? What will we do after Google (as if that'll ever happen!). I feel like the Guidelines are sort of external to a personal ethic.
Thanks for the sphinns everyone!!
@bogglesmymind - I hope not! The whole purpose of my post was to communicate our own personal/professional standards, I tried to make that clear in the post. Our ethics are nobody else's, and we don't assume them to be.
@Harith good points, got me thinking more about this!
@bogglesmymind - guess I just showed how worried I was about that issue :) thanks for the comments.
Great post, just read it and came here to submit. You got here first Dosh Dosh - nice pick :)
Creative stuff Todd, nice work. Shows how far twitter goes as an extension of everyday life (maybe the best compliment we can give a social app?)
Story: Baby Girl Born on Twitter!
Thanks to all for the awesome support!! I was sweating a few moments during delivery, trying to update twitter while everything happened. I have huge admiration for what women are able to do, it's awe inspiring (and a little scary). Moms are bad ass, no two ways about it. Sally is pretty amazing too for understanding while her geek husband did this.
@chiropractic thx for sphinning!
@hjortur nice work, congrats!
@JamesDuthie yup, she is.
Story: The Social Media Trip
Love the ending:
"The “New Communication” is groovy, far-out, and psychedelic all rolled up into a pipe that we’re smoking and the folks who don’t inhale are missing out on one hell of a buzz."
I wrote about this topic recently and cited some of Walter's stuff too: http://www.audettemedia.com/blog/internet-marketing-language-limitations
I changed the name of this article to "The SEO Guide to Information Architecture" - much better imho and better reflective of the content. I think the title kinda hurts it, but I was trying to keep "SEO" out of it.
What I want to know is, why do people target Eric so much with negative criticism? Maybe that's the surest form of flattery or something... but I just don't get it.
BTW this is probably already well-documented here, but I noticed on Eric's blog post the sphinn button linked to the non-rewrite url here: http://sphinn.com/story.php?id=40086 instead of the friendlier one http://sphinn.com/story/40086
@oldschool thanks Anthony. This is a brand spankin' new blog, so comments have been open from the start. I plan on doing about 1 post/week to start, hopefully ramping up from there.
