I like it, a great working outline for entering community building. Like Vanessa says there is points to expand on although that's possibly endless! A great founding document, well done - thanks for sharing.

That's a great article! It's just reminded me to update and check domain expiry dates, maybe implement some failsafes.

Robots txt now thats pretty funny, I betcha with all the kafuffle over duplicate content theres going to be heaps of messy robot files!

Re the point Christine made about firefox, there also seems to be a lot of dev's that have forgotten about backward compatibility to ie6.

Th article touches on a good point for online marketers. To expand on the article...Dont forget about the offline opportunities that can drive back online benefits. Sponsoring a local event can have it's payoff in links and site exposure. Food for thought.

Hi Nowsourcing, glad you brought this up. Netscape is highly under rated not just from a SEM perspective but also from a user perspective. I enjoy the community there far more than digg for a number of reasons including a broader topic base and a more diverse community.

Unfortunately, from what I see, the SEM benefits in gaining links are still at digg. Digg appears to still hold the influential audience, although I'm hoping that changes!

Yep, totally agree. I'd also add that Digg appears to be working it's way into a niche that it may not escape whereas Netscape appears to be forging itself as a more natural reflection of broad and diverse online society thus more open to growth.

I like what their doing with newsquake too. Possibly Netscape needs to work on the quality of user submissions although as the community grows it may sort itself out which it may be doing, I see lots of user submissions being removed.

Someone needs to send a search party out for the Rockstars! Friesen & Boser seem to be missing in action!

ACCC = Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. An independent Australian government authority that aims to protect the rights of fair trade. Background for those not from Australia.

It's also worth noting that Australia is heading for an election and the ACCC has been drawn into the spotlight on several occasions with calls for more power to be allocated. ACCC is also on a bit of a winning streak with it's court cases so it will be very interesting to watch.

It's also interesting to see the courts defining the online environment just like back in december see: http://searchengineland.com/061219-092336.php

So are the days of beta gone where a site grew and developed over time? Launching social sites would have to be the toughest game in town ie. No content without the users although users are dissatisfied if there's no content!!

Makes me think, is there an industry waiting to happen in Pre-Launch Content Developer Services.

great post Meg - great to see you Sphinning! I wonder about Stumble, how is everyone finding the traffic? Does it convert in any way? Or is it useful for exposure?

For me it has been a great exposure tool with some residual traffic after the surge, one post also went to digg after making the buzz page at SU.

Good ole' marketing basics, I love it. Strategic planning is often overlooked in the online environment.
