"IT IS A HISTORICAL SPECIMAN LINK OF THE FIRST KNOWN USE EVER"

I think he means specimen - to be honest i cant read what he wrote because his grasp of the english language and grammar is painful to experience.  Can you imagine this person writing SEO content for your site?

"BUY VIAGRA CIALIS BLAH BLAH BLAH CAUSE I SAID SO AND IF I YELL ENOUGH YOU WILL"

Nice post, Aaron
I'm also not a huge fan of ranking reports - i'd rather provide conversion reports :)

Hi Eli - Facebook has been a great tool for many - unfortunately my short attention span is very poorly suited to facebook or myspace.  Twitter on the other hand is perfect.  140 characters...in...out....and on my way :)

Well I certainly can see where you're coming from. It's a time investment and wont work for everyone.  I do think it's possible though with some effort.  Here are a few examples of twitter profiles for small to medium enterprises that look to be getting the word out via twitter:

http://twitter.com/MajesticHotels
http://twitter.com/ninemile
http://twitter.com/CHEFTONY

I think being in a popular and populated destination would probably help. I didnt mean to imply it was for every brick and mortar business - but it certainly can work for some if the time is invested wisely.

Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate the time you took to comment.

I'm certified with the WRC and I think Robin and John have one of the best programs out there for learning the basics of SEO/SEM.  It's pretty affordable too  - when you compare to large programs like SEMPO, etc.  A great program for the new SEO on your staff to use to learn the ropes.

Lots of great chats and webinars available, sometimes two or three a week - live site reviews, etc.  Good stuff!  Nice write-up Bill.

I used HopStop when I was in NYC for SES NY and it worked like a charm - made the subway easy to navigate for me - and i'd never used it before - let alone all by myself.

Worked great on my ancient Blackberry 7250 too.

This is exactly how i advise our hotel & resort clients to mange their tripadivsor reviews.  I'm impressed that this property and manager "get it" as it seems to be a bit of an uphill struggle with my clients - their time is stretched so thin they seem to put anything 'online' on the back burner.

I'm going to use this example over and over again to show them  how smart it is to take into account what people are saying and reading on TA.

Great post!

That blackhat planet site scrapes the crap out of the Blizzard blog too

I just did some research:

Interestingly enough - they have a PR of 3 on their homepage.  Domain is registered to Dominic LaChance of Informuscorp.com.  Informuscorp.com comes up as a SEO company from canada.  Their homepage states:

We use professional and ethical search engine optimization techniques to gain top search engine rankings for your business or organization.

Hpefully blackhatplanet is a nasty joke and not how they "really" do business - but I'm not holding my breath

HA - and they have a thing in their footer at informuscorp that says "page protected by COPYSCAPE DO NOT COPY"  WTF?

Forms drive me crazy - they're boring, ugly and only work about 60% of the time.  Just give your email address and get a spam filter, people!

I couldnt belive the number of booths at SES NY that had "we're hiring" flyers in them.  more than I'd seen before at SES Jan Jose or Pubcon - in fact I dont recall seeing any such thing at either previous show.

They were scraping the crap out of our newsletter site too, in a few cases it was scraping and sending me google "alerts" to THEIR site with MY content - even before Google was sending me alerts for having seen the content on my own site!  I freaked about that but by the next day Google was showing us as the original source of the content.

I was mistaken when I assumed there was nothing I could do - thanks, Kalena for spurring this action

In the travel industry  - user generated content is really an important aspect to lending credibility and creedence to claims made by hotels, resorts, etc.  If a hotel website says it's "charming and clean" that doesnt necessarily mean it's "true" unfortunately.  Being able to read reviews and gain an opinion from other people who have had the same experience you're about to have is key to making an informed vacation/lodging decision.

That being said, a lot of UGC is discounted because of bad spelling and grammer, no matter what the message may be.

As far as advertising goes - if the content is read, no matter what it says - and traffic gets to the page - an advertiser will want to put ads on it, in my opinion.

There was a session at SES San Jose and I believe Chris Silver Smith had a chart about social image sharing sites and what they offered.

23hq.com was on his list and I just tested a text link the photo description and it is NOT nofollowed.

Others on the list I havent tested:
Pbase
Webshots
Fotki

just an observation, not a recommendation ;)

I received the same email - and most of it was all about posts I'd already read via my RSS feed so I've unsubscribed also.

Not sure there's any "added value" with this "one more thing to read" coming to my inbox.  No offense to SEOMoz, I enjoy their posts and insight a lot - just thought it was a bit redundant.

I'm not a premium member but apparently a box about sending an html email or something was checked when i set up my profile - which is "unchecked" now.
