Therefore I wish to ask; in the name of fairness shouldn't Sphinn Admin and moderators decline voluntarily of Desphinning?
No.
Don't know who " submitter / site owner" refers to - but - to be clear and try to prevent someone else taking any grief for something they did not do - 2 of those 'thumb downs' are mine.
Why? Keeping in mind that this is only MY opinion of the COMMENTS themselves and the reasoning behind them as stated IN each comment - I 'thumbed down' 2 comments because IMHO they sounded like something one would expect from a couple of spiteful little children.
One desphin reason was - "I'll admit I originally Sphunn this because I'm a big fan of Guy's but I didn't really take anything out of this" and "Just to add, I 'desphinned' it because I had Sphunn it originally, usually i would just let it go :)"
MY opinion - Don't Sphinn just because you 'like' someone. Instead, Sphinn because you like the article, or, as stated IN the comment - "just let it go"
And the reason for the other desphinn - "I desphinned it just to piss off the mods..."
MY opinion - Grow up, or again - as stated IN the comment - "just let it go".
If these comments were in reality actually made by little children - my sincere apologies. I certainly cannot and do not expect little children to exhibit the same level of maturity as older persons/adults.
just my .02.
My apologies HD, I am sorry. I tend to take things pretty seriously at times, and I honestly did not get the impression that the comment was in jest - my mistake, and no 'fire' intended. :)
Again, sorry for the misunderstanding. Back to lurk mode.
Just my .02. It's fine if you don't agree, but please keep a civil tongue.
I don't know a thing about pr1, who s/he is, what s/he does, etc. But I DID (and still DO) see hype and hostility slung around on Sphinn. I was admittedly a bit taken aback by pr1's posts, bragging that s/he was a 'sought after' Sphinner and such, but soon enough simply got bored and disgusted with the lot.
Sphinn is not a publicly owned commodity, and the owners/operators have every right to terminate whomever they wish, for whatever reason. In this instance it appears s/he was terminated for continued refusal to obey the rules of the site - and rightly so.
I wonder if I'm the only one who (sadly) reads Sphinn as a way to see what new 'lows' online marketing has sunk to, and so very rarely as a community to read, ask, discuss, and learn. Been there, done that, and the experience was less than pleasant and less than helpful. My mistake.
One thing Sphinn HAS done for me is confirm that I am not now and never will be 'in marketing' as it appears to be interpretted here - where lies, cheats, gaming the system, etc. are accepted norms. If that makes me an idealist, so be it - better that than being perceived as dishonest.
Good on ya Sphinn - you're battling uphill me thinks, but keep at it. And if ya need to terminate me for this - no worries. :)
Maybe DigitalPoint is doing it on purpose.
I believe it is still possible to tell Google to use alternate ads of ones own choosing/creation if their ad inventory runs out.
My fave programmer wrote an article detailing a way to do this a while back --
Creating Alternate Ads for Adsense and Clicksor - http://www.intuitivebydesign.com/08/3ncfRyZQ

Maybe they'll hold the wedding ceremony on Twitter. :)
hmm - a Twitter Wedding - a TWedding.
Story: What's Vanessa Fox worth?
I think Matt showed admirable restraint in his handling of the Airey situation. Had it been me, I'd of probably nailed him to the wall for the 'feigned ignorance' tactic. But then I guess Matt sees more slimy tactics than most, and, sadly, maybe he's used to it.
I understand, and I'm not fussin - it IS relevant after all. I mean, if you're going to have a wedding - you're probably going to have Bedding too - right? ;)

Story: Oh my God Dmoz is Gone!!!!
Totally off-topic, and I haven't looked at the Digg post (I hate Digg) but......
Forgive the stupidity on my part, but why on Earth would you post a fabrication on Digg? Is that the 'New Thing' - posting falsehoods on Social Sites? I can see if it was a 'storytelling' post - but if it's about a real, true event' - why the lies?
Story: Oh my God Dmoz is Gone!!!!
I guess I was hoping for something a bit more 'positive'. Oh well - it seems the familiar old 'because everyone else does it' and 'because that's the way it is' mentality is still the way to go.
I must've missed the "Boy eats own head" headline - sounds like a 'tabloid' piece - which I personally would never believe - mainly because of the sensationalist tactics they employ, and the 'Liar Liar Pants on Fire' reputation they have earned.
And you know - I do keep seeing posts complaining about how SEO and online marketing have been getting bad a reputation. Maybe this lie tactic has something to do with that?
just my old and idealistic .02 :)
Scary stuff. I really WANT to be able to play nice with Google and other SE's, but it's getting damnably hard to do. I've encountered virtually every single item on that list at some point in the past 10 years.
But what can we do, other than cry about it? In an ideal world - webmasters and seo's across the globe would drop Google like a hot potato - all at the same time. Guaranteed to get Googles attention.
But in the real world - that's not gonna happen, and Google knows it. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Maybe some readers are like myself - I tend to only Sphinn if the topic is of interest to me - AND I like the associated article or discussion.
I rarely vote on comments, but when I do it is only because said comment 'spoke to me' as it were. Not because I agreed, or disagreed - but rather because it was something particularly useful, or relevant, or important to me at the time, or maybe it was just funny.
And I never vote a negative - just not my thing. :)
Look, up in the sky.
It's a Bird
It's a Plane
No!
It's Supermatt!
Do we really WANT people flying around just above our heads? ;)
So many 'no answers'.
Perhaps Matt is checking into the unanswered topics in more detail, and plans to blog about themt himself soon. :)
I don't know JohnMu personally, but I too have experienced his brand of "above and beyond the call of duty" assistance. This guy is the real deal. He knows his stuff, and he REALLY goes over the top to help.
It certainly does look like John has hit the job 'sweet spot'. I just hope the 'Corporate' atmosphere doesn't stifle him.
Congrats JohnMu.
I encountered the same thing when I tried to Sphinn a new off-site article earlier. Said it was a duplicate - but I couldn't find it readily and gave up after a few minutes. :
I think they do, but that's just me. :)
I know whenever I search - I always look for the 'paid' listings areas - and then don't give them a second glance.
Good stuff, and too true.
Just yesterday I saw a project posting where the site owner stated he wanted to "be number one for any search in Google, Yahoo, MSN..."
Wouldn't that be a neat trick - being number 1 for ANY search. :)
Story: What about Sphinnxxx?
Story: What about Sphinnxxx?
But of course, the tripX's could be misinterpreted - that's the universal symbol for porn isn't it - xxx? ;)
Love = Porn? (hmm...how Freudian) :)
I think it certainly CAN be risky, but so can getting out of bed some mornings. ;)
I do use an 'altered' photo as a rule. Of course - it helps that the photo is 20-some-odd years old - it may be difficult to recognize me now from that alone.
