I once worked with a client that had hired another company without telling me and they made doorway pages and lots of other crap, I asked him wth!? clients answer: 'I wanted more rankings' X(
Story: SEOmoz Pro Membership Review
Sphunn for 'SEOmoz pro membership is like the Willy Wonka factory of SEO'
Do they have Umpa Lumpa's? :)
Perhaps it's more of a numbers game, look at the index page of the blog, 2 links saying 'about us' and 5 links saying the name plus the 5 links with the name anchor text are in the content and the 'about us' links are in the navigation.
So is Google giving more weight to same links but different anchor text or less weight to nav links/more weight to contextual links?
Google bought a company a while ago that specialise in lantent symantics so no surprise on Google's part.
I've noticed that Google, Yahoo and MSN all use related search terms, but I didn't know Yahoo was combining search results, I understand Google does this for Adwords and hints organically.
The graphs look cool but in that format it's harder to compare them against each other :/ part from that, cool look forward to the second part
Everyone should use CrazyEgg, it's amazing being able to see exact clicks on a site and can give you a good idea of what do A/B split test :)
lol, Jason Calcanis, I thought he said Mahalo was no Google killer, then every sentence in Lisa's post is subliminal shot at the search engines, 'people do long tail because search fails'...WRONG!
I think what he's trying to do is get pissed off, go to Mahalo try and find faults and give in because Mahalo is the 'end all' of search because it's human edited.
lol, as a different perspective to it, saying SEO is crap, believe in human edited stuff to SEO's is like saying God is crap, believe in people to the religious.
"Money.co.uk just sold for a whopping £1.2 million, that’s $2.4 million in proper money" wtf? 'proper money'? and what's wrong with her Queens pounds? :/
anyway, I'm not sure how they came to a figure like that, from an outside look, 900 links, 800 pages indexed, not enough data in compete... It has the potential to go far with that domain name, but in it's current state, £1.2mil? seriously?
If someone wants to show me why it's worth 1.2mil please do so
I like how every single spam bot have all SU'd the same stories in the same order...
How can people name a folder 'Google' and get away with it? *sigh* I guess it's like PCworld having a folder called SEO: link
@willneu, it's not the fact that they blantently do SEO that annoys me, just the fact it's so sloppy, instead of SEO, they could call it 'laptops', get away with it and benefit them. Bit like Money Expert naming a folder Google, call it insurance, make it less obvious.
Story: We Do Need SEO Standards
I was thinking we need standards to help stop spammers and help younger people get involved in the industry, but Jill your winning me over
I think one example of why not to make standards is paid links.
What view would standards take on these? If we're for then we're Googles public enemy number 1, if we're against then we loose a pretty handy option.
