yes you can 'optimise' (used loosely) a site with backlinks and no on page seo but it's like playing with yourself with your left hand when you are right handed and you have your right hand free. Why do it?

Also - whats better?

A site that is no 1 becuase of:

1. Backlinks
2. Backlinks and content

I know what I would pick.

Backlinks can disappear and devalue quickly, whereas content can be hard to shift, even out of date content.

I get the point I think.

4 hours to learn on site structure? I suppose it depends on who's teaching you or who you're listening to.

I'm hardly a sycophant and I know plenty of people have differing views but this is the sort of stuff that makes me really like seomoz.

What a pullava - this is one of the biggest non-issues I have seen for a long time:)

  • Lyndon was in to build natural links - job done - er rather expertly
  • The website publisher / owner shoud deal with the ethics as I am sure Lyndon would have exmplained to them
  • Lyndon shares with us the what why where to build his brand and get people talkin and learn from his success and mistakes - job done er rather expertly again
This is the finance industry we're talkin about too lol

I'll never type "best loan for me" into Google again with any confidence lol :) -

I'd wager nearly every result in that vertical in Google is a link-based-lie. I work in it.

It's really good Lyndon's took this option to continue the discussion by way of an explanation / tutorial for those of us who're interested in generating citeable content on sites.

Great stuff!

@ EvilGreenmonkey IRN BRU actually - makes you a bit mad. Makes you hit first and ask questions later.

@ Tim Chill Pill taken

@Discuit - I think a suitable punishment would be for him to spend his summer holiday this year in Scotland.

Was busy this morning and just got in to deal with this - including an artilce about the parent company which I am glad never saw the light of day now - seeing the funny side now and appology accepted although this sort of thing is serious bad news for some people.

Perhaps we should help Eavesy out now?

It's a pain and often you can't even read the thing even after refreshing the captcha 2 or 3 times.

Michael is obviously not fond of nofollow, that's clear. He consistently says nofollow shouldn't be used to sculpt (whatever).

I think it's misleading. When I decided I didn't want to pass PR or whatever to my contact page from the home page I nofollowed it on my main navigation - I'm not scared to experiment with my site.

Just beacause I did this didn't stop me linking to it normally within a part of text content on my blog etc to ensure it got into Google's index and thus into any site search I might use every now and again.

What's the issue here? Just because we nofollow pages on the main menu doesnt mean that page wont get in to the index nor be ignored by site search. It's a bit of a non-issue.

I prefer a woman making the tough decisions so Janeway gets my vote (although @AppleVenus  LOL although to be fair she wasn't actually at the helm at the time was she - god, did I say that?) . Perhaps I've watched the other episodes too much....

It's safe to say Sisco was the most boring.
