"And what's with the "Carfax Vehicle History" anchor text on SEL?"
Yea, at least link drop to the right page!

haha
Have to agree, the things listed in the article are not exclusive to in house folks, at all.
Unless I'm missing something the double serving has not changed and is not new. It's been in place for years.
I blogged about the double serving policy back in 06'...the policy hasn't changed from what I can tell. Maybe someone was just impacted by it for the first time and thought it was new?
I did notice Amber's post didn't descibe the policy as new, it's just described that way in the title at Sphinn.
"The Google double ad serving policy, according to my Google rep, states that, “Any client that offers the same products or services at similar price points as other advertisers without significant differentiation in terms of website content may run into this policy.” "
Seems odd to me that if that is a policy it's not published anywhere, at least that I can find. Like you said it could just be google-speak for the same thing. I don't understand why Google would want to prevent two different advertisers/companies from showing ads for the same product at the same time...unless one was just an affiliate for the other. That scenerio is covered and prohibited in the published double serving policy;
"Google doesn't permit multiple ads from the same or an affiliated company or person to appear on the same results page."
Ranking reports are little more than a distraction. As a client I don't care where I rank for what term, I care how much qualified natural search traffic my site gets. I don't care if it comes from 1 qualified term in position 3 or 1,000 qualified terms in positions 1 - 500.
Now as a search marketer I see the value in ranking reports for testing and trendwatching but don't send them to my clients. There are lots of ways to demonstrate the value you bring to the table without ranking reports.
"Well hopefully the reason is that they liked the article and found it useful/interesting/well written/funny. That would be all I'd write each time."
Couldn't the same be said for desphinn comments?
Anyway, it was just a thought as there are some items that get sphunn by multitudes of people who obvioulsy don't even read what they are sphinning.
Sphinn on.
"The truth is SEO’s are, for the most part, loathed."
Self serving jack ass seos maybe...but not the true professioanl seos. True search optimization professionals, in every situation I've witnessed, are respected and appreciated for the value they bring to their employers or clients.
Content works great for me in 80%+ of the accounts I work with. The network is nothing more that a tool - you have to know how to use the tool properly for it to accomplish your goal(s).
There's not really a problem with the "industry", the problem is just between a few folks with egos the size of Texas. The rest of us, ie 99% of the industry, couldn't possibly care less about the pointless drivel that's been posted over the past few days.
@ Jill - just to clarify, content network numbers are not included in the estimates. Search network numbers yes, content network no.
couple variations of this story out there already: http://sphinn.com/story/57468
It's all good stuff!
Baryy, no problem at all. I just wanted to add the link to my post as I think I'm the only one who posted about it that actaully saw the announcement in my MCC....which makes me think this is a feature we will see live very soon and not just a leak/accident. Keep up the great work at SER.

@incrediblehelp -

Story: Google 'Leaks' Search Volume
I'm surprised something that appears to be so easy took so long.
High 5's all around!
I nominate his media post article - the whole thing - for the ridiculous statement of the week award.
"I personally will not attend any event that he is speaking at"
Seconded. Even one step further, I wouldn't even allow any employees to attend an event where this guy was speaking. Any event that would feature this guy as a speaker has no credibility in my book.
