I'm with you on this, Tood. I was also a longtime hold-out, but now it's one of my favorite apps. It does replicate some of the best aspects of a conference (the conversations) without the annoyances (travel, time, etc.)
Unfortunately, the pyramid scheme may be a permanent fixture of humankind, I think falling for it is embedded in our genetic code. If it sounds too good to be true...

Bill, it's more than just that the users leave the site. It's really more about the frame of mind the user is in. On Google, a lot of users are in a "shopping" frame of mind (whether retail, fin services, travel, etc.). On social media (Digg, YouTube, etc.) they are in a time-wasting frame of mind. That's what creates the differential in value.
