Hope the link to this article is fixed before I forget all about it. I really wanted to read it.
@LocalHound: My sentiments exactly. I hoope it's not so, but I am very apprehensive "desphinn" will make this an ugly place overnight. There is enough ugliness on the net already, without having to willingly visit it.... so if it does, I am soo out of here.
Igor, is there more to this post? Because Sphinn is having problems with discussion links - they go to an error page... and you usually have a lot more to say. :-)
I've posted my view in another thread, but it goes well here too. I've been to SES more times than I can count, and with the time invested vs. knowledge imparted, I can't see any further reason to attend other than if I got paid to go by an employer, like some who are able to attend do. Being self-employed, the last thing I want to do is miss an entire week of work for the esteemed privilege of seeing in person what will surely be reported, digested and regurgitated on nearly every SEO blog and here on Sphinn.
But then again - those parties! And all the inside stuff you can learn by slamming drinks down with those over-inebriated ego-filled Google employees - woo hoo! Almost makes it worth it!
That's real nice, but I've been to SES more times than I can count, and with the time invested vs. knowledge imparted, I can't see any reason to attend other than if I got paid to go by an employer, like some who are able to attend do. I NEVER recommend PPC to my clients unless their keywords are so competitive that the cost of SEO would far exceed that of PPC. And for folks that need that kind of SEO - well I refer them to the big guns like Bruce Clay. That's just too much work for a little shop like me. But truthfully, PPC is more like extortion than advertising. It's sad to see these little guys that have to shell out thousands each month, just to make a meager living. The bid wars and the click fraud line Google's pockets, but creams these little guys. Who do you think is gonna win this game? What a scam. Reminds me of the old mob days, when hoodlums extorted money from the neighborhood shops for "protection" while the shop owner's children stand there shoeless. Seriously, it makes me want to vomit.
Oh, Matt Cutts, you merciful one! Our Mediator before Google, the Onmipresent One! Oh how we bow before you!
*blech*
Too much FUN! Her story on her auction had me rolling on the floor. And then I came upon the link to her blog. Dang, no wonder it's gone viral. This woman is hysterically funny. I've already added her blog to my newsreader - and I don't even have kids. lol
@flyingrose: You can find the link to the blog on the auction page, but I'll also try to post it here. Here ya go:

This just peeves me to no end. Google has got to be the most hypocritical company on the planet in this day, just one short of the tobacco industry. Telling site owners it's "polluting the web" to use paid links - when they are in the business of mass selling links themselves! "Don't be evil" - Yeah, right. *hews chunks*
HAHAHA! That was soo stinkin funny! It sounded just like them! AARF!!! 10 thumbs up!
Aw, comon now. Just because something posted is already known to you, means it is useless? Well we might as well ax all the information already posted on the Internet, cause someone in the world already knows it, right? Flawed reasoning.
That's what makes Sphinn soo awesome. The "cutting edge" stuff floats right to the top, the old info sinks to the bottom, but what remains is an exhaustive encyclopedia of information for all. The concept is ingenious, IMO. So leave my Sphinn alone, k?
I can't help but find the whole thing quite gratifying, in a twisted sort of way. :-D
Just read Sphinn everyday. So many are vying to get their posts to the top, that they give away all the best SEO secrets in the process. Sit back, take it all in, and enjoy the feast!
Spam? This isn't spam. It might not be your cup of tea, but there is true content here. And Sphinn does have a bury feature. It's called *little to no votes*. Rather than dictating to the rest of the community on what is valuable content, let us decide.
Aarf! I had a client like this! The description fits him to a T! He would call me at all hours freaked out about a keyword he just thought of, that must go on the homepage ASAP! I got his site page 1 and PR 4 within 6 months, and he still never paid me on time, I always had to beg for my money. I quit him twice, but he'd hound me to come back, and I'd acquiesce, because even though he paid late, it was good money when he did. But I finally had it with all the stress, and quit him for good just a couple of months ago. Yes, I miss the money, and he really is a nice guy - but I can't tell you how wonderful it is not getting spazoid phone calls at the crack of dawn or while gnawing on my dinner.
