I think it really depends on what kind of industry you are in. The big brands still next link building mostly because any natural links they get are just going to be their company name or domain name. While they are getting the PR juice they are using missing out on the keyword density of properly optimized links.
Story: Google’s Achilles Heel
That's the thing with innovation - it breeds more innovation. At some point an idea becomes the staple of an idustry, it becomes a stepping stone to something else or it is both. I guess only time will tell how long Google can be the latter.
Story: SearchGuild Goes Offline
Yea there were some good peeps over at SG - shameless plug, we are getting some former SG's at AOSEP if anyone is looking for a new forum. AOSEP was setup by old SG moderators.
> graywolf, I honestly think you might enjoy Machiavelli
Actually Graywolf I think Matt Cutts is referring to Tupac.
@graywolf - I don't think trying to persuade Google users would really make any difference. If most users are non-industry people, they really won't care. Its like someone telling me that at their job, this happens, that happens... while I can empathize, at the end of the day I can't worry about stuff I got my own problems.
Users may walk away with more insight, but they are still gonna use Google.
The credibility issue exists in all aspects of life. All we can do is do the best we can one client at a time. Like you said Tim, there are a lot of industries that have good and bad people performing. Perhaps our industry isn't much different, I think a lot of us would like to believe we are special and new but really, we aren’t.
Experienced business owners realize that in every aspect of doing business you are going to encounter people who will offer you the world, whether it be group insurance plans or buying a yellow page listing, and its the job of the owner to use their instincts to judge whether that company or individual is one that will provide them good service. Any pay service should be taken serious. Obviously a lot of mom and pop shops get taken advantage of, as well as, seasoned businesses. That isn’t our fault. They may be the same people who buy a subscription from a door-to-door encyclopedia salesperson or buy beachfront property in Florida and it winds up being a bag of sand. You can’t stop that.
There are people who will mature and realize the web should be taken as serious as everything else and not buy services on a whim. Then again, there is a sucker born everyday.
We know how to party :) .. Actually this industry is cool in that we help each other out despite being somewhat competitors
Story: Should Designers Know SEO?
I say the more people who don't understand SEO, the more my service is needed :)
Story: BOTW's $10K Giveaway
@Tim - Its not even a contest, its just a "we are having a special on registrations, please sign up" , come on this is newsworthy?
Leave Artie Alone!! Chris Crocker isn't a genius, he is a real disturbed kid who only got noticed because a big star had a big crash and 24 hour news channels needed something to talk about.
@halfdeck, "I don't have a problem with 1,000 people blogging about Blogrush."
Do you have a problem with a percentage of those people submitting their article about blogrush over the next weeks and months to Sphinn? Sure a bunch will get filtered by Mods but how many of them will be smart enough to make an interesting Headline to sneak past the filter knowing that they are duplicating topics because of ego, linkbait, etc...
That kind of thing turns good resources into garbage.

One more tip, don't put a video on youtube of yourself speaking at Columbia University.
Good point pedersen! The word n00b is irrelevant because potential clients won't be searching for services using that term. So the other 3 words in your link text will help your rankings on the good terms.
They are still trying to merge with XM, so i would assume that would have to settle before anyone can buy it. I'm not so sure how serious this is.
Story: Facebook IM coming soon
Myspace already did it, why not facebook, lol. My cynicism tells me it won't really make any waves.
Now here is a submit about sphinn that I actually like. Great Job to all involved and you Todd :)
