Story: How To Use Your Words Online
Nice, one, Kim. A really enjoyable read. Words are just about everything on the web.
Hooray, David! It's so exciting to see this published. I had such fun being part of this!

Wouldn't you love to sit down with everyone who participated this and go through the questions one by one and see how we are reaching various conclusions about the questions on which there are disagreements?
I thought David did such a good job with coming up with the questions. They were all important ones.

The problem with the florists is sort of a catchphrase in local search. The floral category in Google Maps have been the victim of crazy spamming wherein mafiaesque monster companies have made every effort to appear as though they are locally located, when, in fact, they are not. Mike Blumenthal even covered a very nutty situation in which blackball letters were sent out to dozens of florists warning them that if they didn't pay up, they'd be cut out of the system...a sort of extortion.
Matt's article references these types of problems.
This was a terrific article.

I never miss this column of yours. It's one of my favorite things being published anywhere these days. Realtors should really dig into what this interview is saying. Nice one!

Story: Are SEO Forums Still Needed?
Well, I must beg to differ. I'm a Cre8asite junkie and honestly couldn't get on without the folks there. But, then, Cre8asite is much more than 'just an SEO forum'. It offers total Internet business support in a really unique way. (disclosure: I got made a mod there a couple of months ago, but only after a long history of participation there.) So, I'd have to say, if the forum grows and changes to encompass a broader variety of topics, just as SEO has done, there's a very good place for it.
Heh heh, Mike! Mapspammers beware! I hope that second lawyer doesn't try to sue you.
This was the great read of the week.
Miriam
Great interview, Matt.
I continue to relish this series!
Congratulations to Cathy, with whom I've had the pleasure of speaking. She's a smart one!
Miriam
Thanks Dave!
This was such fun, and I am just loving this series of Matt's. What a treat to have a client featured in his column.
Miriam
This is a revolutionary tool and should be of immense assistance to business owners trying to organize their review acquisition process. Really cool, Michael!

Step 6: Hire an SEO who is actually going to be able to accomplish steps 1-5 for you.
Like you say, Mike, most small business owners are going to get crosseyed reading that list, as thorough and good as it is. It's brilliant that you figured this out! But Google needs to make this easier. Agreed.

Thank you for coming to comment on this.
So, in the Marriott scenario, would this mean that Marriott would need to assume the role of customer in order to edit the listing back to the proper url? Is that what it comes down to or am I misunderstanding.
One thing about this...it's happening on Yahoo! and they have an actual phone number you can call to speak to a local rep (unlike Google). Has anyone alerted Marriott to this? They obviously need to know about it, and maybe their first step should be to call Yahoo and show them the problem.
Miriam
Geez, Mike, that is seriously disturbing. Marriott needs to get with it and claim their listings or claim that back, to begin with, and then they need to get in touch with the spammer.
The trouble is, there's nothing in place to prevent the spammer from going in and changing it back to their own redirect URL the minute Marriott's back is turned. This uncovers a very real problem and I think your legal questions deserve answers.
Really good article!
Miriam
Well, I'm assuming they would. Wouldn't they?
I hadn't thought that they wouldn't....Hmm....
Miriam
The discussion going on on this post is really great. I'm so glad you found it useful!
Miriam
I'm glad you posted about this, Jill. I thought it was just me.
I know that there are sites and blogs I consider must-reads multiple times every day.
A month ago I was visiting Sphinn 2-3 times a day, maybe more. However, I'm now coming here maybe once a day. It's stopped feeling like a must-read to me. What's on the front page seems not to have changed hardly at all in the past couple days, and the What's New section seems to be overloaded with facebook-twitter-makemoney-SM posts to the point where I'm lucky if I see one topic on a whole page of entries that hits me as must-read.
Sphinn has the authors and the ability to be essential reading for most of us, but it's not living up to that for me, personally, right now.
Interesting topic.
Miriam
Matt, this was a completely awesome article. I LOVE reading about small business success stories. Really, really cool. These folks sound so smart. Lovely to see.
Miriam
Wow, seeing it, Barry.
I wonder how that will alter user behavior. It's a whole new ball game.
Thanks for covering this.
Miriam
I appreciated the points made in this article, but the one I have often seen cited and which I differ with is the concept that simple praise is not welcome.
While I know I much prefer it when my blog's readers leave in-depth comments agreeing, disagreeing, sharing their special viewpoints, I don't feel annoyed by my regular readers remarking, "this was great."
I'd rather have them leave a note of praise if they've read the article than not bothering to comment at all, you know? It's a nice way for them to say they appreciated an article, even if they don't have anything major to contribute after reading it. In other words, those small comments are like a little thank you note, to my mind, and I like them.

Story: Why Spam Google Groups?
That made me laugh, too, Kevin. Thank you for the kind comment!
Miriam
Just a note of thanks to everyone who sphunn this series of 5 interviews. Sadly, none of them managed to go hot, and my guess is that this last one is about to disappear because of the age threshold, but I want to let the sphinners know, I saw the repeated support for this series in your kind sphinns, and the conversations that took off in the comments section of my blog were just terrific! I'm so glad to know so many people got something out of this series.
Thanks, all!
