Sure, lets all make it easier for Google, I'll remove rewrites if they give every site in the world +1 toolbar PR :)
"people like that are so very few and far between in this world"
I wouldn't class the behavior of lateral thinking as a trait only carried by some people, I would rather class it as a trait that occurs in all people when they feel the need arise.
It is healthy to have a balance of instinct, or where the instinct lacks, a routine that err's both directions. To have a stringent approach to all problems, based only on what you know, sometimes gets things done, while other occassions call for an abandonment of logic and embrace of free thought.
When deciding what information to believe on the internet, I'm sure an acquired sense for the art of bullsh*t is a handy tool to possess. A "Spidey sense" as it were.
Thoughts on the post:
I hate that moment when clicking away from reading an article, mid formulating a strategy for whatever I'm doing, and at the last second, seeing that the date reads three years ago. That is the point when my disposition visibly sags.
As Edmund Blackadder once said, "Sir walter Raleigh is an utter birk".
"The Matrix' may not be such an unreal idea after all"
My brain will never be able to organise the information of the multiverse as the internet can, unless I have memory implants installed at some point, so I need the "hive" don't I? Otherwise my brain augment would make a cool manga cartoon :)
I don't think Google will get their hands permanently on Yahoo!'s search results that easily. Is Yahoo! simply choosing the lesser evil to partner with, until they have a plan to escape the danger zone? Isn't this a temporary arrangenent to fend off MSFT to buy extended planning time? Microsoft seem to have their sights on convincing the Yahoo! shareholders of their commitment to landing the takeover successfully, whatever it takes.
At all risk of reducing your long work into a mere sentence (please take no offence), it's not about ranking for traffic here people, it's really about ranking so that you look good. Can't be the top dog if you dont even rank for your own service. It's just up to you if you can afford the hours to achieve rankings. Thats how I see it anyway.
And SEO is rather a complicated example, because the trust factor will depend on the situation, obviously same-country SEO is pretty necessary, because web behaviour is different etc etc. It's simple, if a company manages to find your SEO page or ad, and is convinced they need SEO, they will use you depending on how good your response is to their initial marketing need. Ranking for any relevant terms is important here.
An example like "Sam's corner clothing store" illustrates what type of business needs local SEO, while "Pete's free e-books" perhaps illustrates who might not.
One of my old school aquaintences recently tried to organise a highschool reunion, using facebook. I dont think anyone pitched, or at least I didn't. Oh wait, now I realise that I lost out, instead of my original assumption, that I was cool and mysterious for not pitching, oh well jokes on me I guess.
Nice post!
Right on AntC, they're a software company essentially, not an SEO firm, they should not lure people into false promise of fortune, but then when did Microsoft really need to care about our (consumers) well being?
Story: The art of seduction 2.0
Effective seduction is certainly a game of give and take, a trade of sorts. You cannot easily get attention without entertaining the needs or desires of your target.
Story: Using Local Search in SEO
Yes, I see at the end that you mentioned that conversions on these kind of searches are more likely, a point very central to the topic, it's what makes optimising for local worth while in the first place.
you can't argue with a social (media) climber old-boy. Thanks for the warning Tad, I'll try not to get exploited too much ;)
The treadmills at Virgin Active have screens for TV watching, maybe they could be upgraded to PC terminals, and blogging could become "on the go".
Sad to see an old giant approach retirement, Jerry must simply console himself in all the money he has lying around, sipping smoothies while remeniscing on days past, when they were the leader in search.
Come on, give yourself some credit :) your work is def appreciated, thanks for the sphinn.
SU is cool... Wonder what Ebay have in store for it, and how usage of it will evolve in future.
The Solution is to redirect SEO efforts to the aspects that can be controlled. Internal cross-linking is not so difficult.
Google are not likely to say: "oh well, since SEO's are whining we better revert our efforts and change back. The Google engineers probably put droves of their time and skill into planning their strategies and actions. Moreover, what's happening to my site is also happening to my competition.
So We webmasters should suck it up and say goodbye to our loyal friend the supplemental tag and move on to brighter futures.
