I couldn't agree more with your initial statement, SEO is about a lot more than just targeting a hand full of high volume keywords. It is about devising a broader strategy based on business objectives. my point was simply that I believe there is too much weight being placed on inbound links. to the extent that people are buying their way to the top. this is not good for the smaller players and it is not good for the search results.
