I don't see how they would do ads in regard to the API. Insert an ad every x messages?
Honestly, twitter is one of the rare services I'm willing to pay (a little bit) for

@Halfdeck I too think critics serve their purpose. It's a balancing act and they (we) are part of the balance. Also, "he who is without sin, let him trhow the first stone" doesn't mean we can't criticise or that when we do the validity of our critic is automatically nill simply because of our ethics (or absence of them).
@neyne Unrelated: love your avatar :)
Knowning your own ethics is as essential as knowing your own SEO theories: search, always question, always test.

Slashing someone down, killing something off is fun.
I think that sums up the motivation behind a lot of lynching mob critique. Happens with stars (whether Hollywood or SEO) and big success (whether Microsoft or Google -- Apple is slated for vilification, I expect).
Good point though, good point.
I like overviews like that :)
I take a lot of screenshots myself (Snag It addicit here). Bryan Eisenberg, another screenshot addict, came up with a great shot of Amazon's first home page...

Things is that
Headline
works in HTML -- not in flash. URL parsing? No problem. Anchor text? Do we get that now? I'll believe it when I see it.

SSS, thank *you* for accepting the guest post invite!
Agreed, Jill, SSS is "on the level" when it comes to his game. He's also one of the rare BH's (at least that I know of...) that blog not only so openly but so thoroughly about the game.
I mark a lot of stuff "read" in my feed reader because I know it will come around again or is SSDD (thanks Stephen King :) but SSS's feed is one I make sure to check, to monitor.
"Bee Gee?" Yup, Before Google.
My youngest one then looks at me like I said "before air".
Thanks for the compliment :)
Melanie is one of those smart people that never show off. No boosting, no "look how smart I am!"; it all just comes out naturally whenever I talk with her or ask her something.
Thanks for accepting the guest post request, Melanie!
Incestuous linking relationship counter?
Sleuth, I'm sorry but I have no clue what you just said :) Sorry!
And Brian... Am I to understand you're going to do a weekly? (evil grin)
Keri is a fun, smart person. It's interesting to hear from someone outside of the usual circle :)
Thanks Kevin. Love reading compliments but when I read the original stuff and try to say it in my own words, I can't help but be amazed how smart the people are who are working on this stuff.

Hey! Didn't expect this to show up here :) Thanks, Lora!
Thanks for the compliment, Kim.
Social media, though, is less about what you get and more about what you give
Sphunn out of a sort of idealism :)
Yes, on a human relational level social media is about giving. And at some level all marketing and advertisement is about giving (addressing needs). But overall I find this a bit ... too simplified as it's so clearly a "it depends" situation.
Sphunn because we need encouraging stories like this both for the people wanting to start and for those who started but wonder if they're going somewhere.
In a way we might be simply incredibly spoiled.
There's an ongoing avalanche of mostly on-topic content we're experiencing.
Tons and tons of posts in Google Reader (or whatever your RSS client is).
Tens to hundreds of submissions here. They don't always cover what we might consider new ground but some of them are really well written - at the very least.
You write; So I'm wondering...have we simply run out of good SEO and SEM topics?
No, there's tons of topics to explore still. We have much more hard data on how people are influenced by, react to or interact with advertisement than we have for people's relations with search engines, for example. Marketing, brand perception, feel of SERP quality -- those and more come into play when, within seconds, people make a choice which link to click. Influencing them via the SERP medium is much different from traditional modesl. Delicious area to explore (and test! and play with!).
Oh -- and for me Sphinn is a social place first. Then a discovery place; new people, new blogs, new sites. If I really want to quickly scan an find a jewel or two, I probably dive into one of my news readers. Faster, more scanable -- and a much, much larger pool :)
