I will step up and say that you cannot learn all of SEO from a book. You can learn the basic fundementals of SEO to get you started in a direction. You might choose the wrong direction and get distracted by what you read, since you probalby will not be reading from just one book. If you read Search Engine Opitimization with PHP by Jamie Sirovich and Cristian Darie you will come across chapters that refer to cloaking and blackhat techniques. As we know to play by the rules and think long term, you will not want to take up on that direction of SEO. You learn the very basic's of some of the techniques, but you do not learn everything. So to say that you can learn everything about SEO from reading a book is just a load of crap. Sure you can learn how to cook by reading cook books, but you will not be nearly as good as someone else who has practiced and actually worked in the industry to test out different cooking techniques. The same goes for SEO, a book will only take you so far, and to be competitive that is not far enough.

Jill - The articles were read, all 4 of them.  So much for making mistakes, is that not allowed here by you or any other mod? Ever think that maybe I misinterpretted the message being sent? No, I didn't think so, instead you come out with that kind of comment.

Jonathan, I applaud your efforts and grats on it being such a huge success for you.  Just goes to show us all that we are a family and when help is asked for in most cases everyone jumps in to help out.  I believe this is also a success for Sphinn itself, shows the veterans and new people that we are in fact a community that helps one another.  Yes we have disagreements and arguments, but that is just like with any family.

Exactly my thoughts Tim, who is to say you cannot target someone and attack there YSM account with fraud charges.  Yahoo needs to be able to detect such activities and fix it on there end, I mean they even admitted that he was not at fault.  I wrote an article about this on my blog in regards to sabotaging someones YSM account in the same manor I feel happened to Jeremey.  I just hope I am wrong about the idea and that it is truly not possible to do.  If it is possible though, oh boy would that open a huge can of worms.  That hole that Yahoo has would need to be filled and fixed quickly by them or other high profile YSM accounts could be shut down using the same tactic.

Sadly enough crimsongirl the selling of links will not go away anytime soon.  At worst it will be moved from the mainstream life to more underground affiliations to where not just anyone can buy proper links that actually will improve your website.

Yes i agree it is still a good article to read.  A little on the old side, but in Jondyer's defence I did not see a post date on doshdosh for the article.  I had to go down to the comments and look at the date of the first response which was March 2007.  Still a good read though for anyone interested.

People need to think back 5 years and see how networking was done then and apply that to there networking now. Face to face, chat rooms, forums, instant messaging, telephone, etc. are all used to instroduce yourself to the people in your industry. Begging for attention or a glimpse at the spotlight will not go far. The attention you get will be from a negative eye and the spotlight you see will fade rather quickly. I am not a big influence on the community here as are some others, but at least take the advice of hard work and determination will get you farther then complaining.

Great addition to add to your feedflare!  Not only helps your posts on sphinn, but it also allows others to know about the sphinn community.

Guess there way of rebuilding is to make an almost clone like google maps.  I understand they were behind the times to google and microsoft, but at least try and make some new featurs stand out.  When I see there beta version, first thing I think of is google maps.

Paid link detector software, what a load of crap.  I do feal sorry for anyone who did spend $40 on it to see results like that.  So with all those paid links it says you have, all that money you can take a long vacation now until next months checks roll in as well.  :)

John Chow went from a 6 to a 5 and I believe Andy's site went from a 5 to a 4.  Correct me if I a wrong on those two numbers but Google is up to something with the PR system.  Matt did say it would be sometime before we saw any type of update.

I agree with fantom on this, they need to get there act straightened out or the walls will cave in on them and there reputation will be tainted forever as being a scam.  At first I thought the idea had great potential, some very well known bloggers had given it great reviews and probably a ton of sales.  With all that free publicity and turn around you think they would be on top of things a lot better.

I have to add in "Not to write when you are angry or upset".  This can come back and kick you in the butt because you tend to write on your emotions towards an individual, company, product etc. The next day you think back and ask yourself, why did I write that?
