i'm with Ms. Whalen and Ms. Berg (i hope that's right!).  it's not the worst thing i've ever read here. ;)  i also like the fact it's not necessarily written for those who do this stuff day in and day out but perhaps someone who's considering consulting.

consulting is frustrating because usually the only person who's interested in SEO is the one the called you in.  doesn't matter the size of the company, like Ms. Whalen said, small or large, you're either dealing with ego or inter-company politics and shit doesn't get done.  it's tough all over.

@Ms. Whalen - so you're a Spongebob fan too? :)  for some reason pants make me feel, er, what's the word, professional?

@Ms. Cre8pc - =)  that sounds better than Ms. Packmule.

@SEOAly - keep up the good work.  learning by doing is one of the best ways to learn. ;)

good to see a response to Mr. Gray's post.  when i read his post, i thought he was complaining about a non-issue.  but it looks like a lot of people take this seriously!

besides, if you can't trust the sausage king, who can you trust?

@ Brent - it looks like he ended up approving your comments.  funny that out of all the comments he managed to pick out Rebecca Kelley's (i luv u, rebecca!!!!!!) to comment on.  The dude needs to fire his writer.

nice assessment, todd.  i wonder if the rest of the hanger-onners in his forum are going for the same market niche or if they're just props for his cornering scared consumers?

i think this is a more sensible idea than standards.  the only obstacle i can think of is one that we have currently with clients finding out what makes a good or bad SEO company - learning to access the information and getting people to submit honest reviews.  but certainly this is better than standards with a governing body.

i think this post might be more effective if it didn't require having to click on 50 different links to see all the twitter posts.

this is great, matt. i'm glad to see the tide turning on the xml sitemap religion.

out of curiosity, have you considered re-adding the xml sitemap to your friends blog to see if it kills google traffic again?  not that your friend woiuld be all that keen on the idea . . . . :)

this is solid advice, matt.  i think one thing people forget is that nothing is really "free", even from our generous overlords.  people should use these things extremely cautiously.

@ netgeek06 - sorry, sure those products could be helpful, but at what cost?  it's basically telling them how you run your business and puts all your important data on the interweb where some enterprising hacker or a stupid mistake could make it available to schemers or your competition.  did we read the same article?

if there's money to be made, somebody is going to be moving on it.  i'll be glad to that shit so he can go off and pursue some other stuff.  see you all at the bank.

dag - when you look at the number of reasons for absolute vs relative, kinda' makes you lean towards absolute . . . .

damn, that comment is a good post! =)  i couldn't agree more with your echo chamber sentiment.  I think that's the thing with becoming part of a micro-community - after a while, you think you are the interweb and therefore what's important to your tribe is important in large.
