It's my fault. Every time I send a message Twitter crashes. I'm convinced of it. It's my karma. My VOIP phone can even crash iPhones by calling them, seriously.

I thought Wining and Blogging were the same.

No?

That's "Whining?"

Oh.

I admit that I question whether or not SEO will remain independent as an industry. Yes, there will always be independent providers and consultants, but...

We will continue to see mega-agencies either purchase independent SEO firms like, WPP buying into Visible Technologies, or they will create their own departmewnts like Ogilvy Public Relations's 360 Degree Digital Influence

We will see larger SEO firms, like Cobalt (which was not even deep in the business until recently), emerge as the next generation of major marketing agencies.

Large companies will create in-house SEO teams. Some, like Amazon.com, will even sell some of their SEO capabilities to their own clients.

These three trends will dominate the SEO business among Fortune-sized businesses. Mid-sized agencies will flip while the independents and the small agencies will be left to fight over the scraps.

The job if SEO will not go away. If fact, I predict that SEO will become even more important as search becomes more complex and mainstream mobile search becomes a reality. But the SEO business model is changing and there will be a shake-up.

When I met Jeremy Shoemaker in person he was calm, introspective, thoughtful and intelligent. When I read him online he has an edgy mischievous energy. I will not go so far as to say he is purposefully baiting people like a chess master, most of the time, but I will never doubt that he thinks thru what he writes.

ShoeMoney knows more about practical SEO application than most A-List SEOs. It may not always show-up when he discusses theoretical SEO application, but my impression is that Jeremy is too busy working it, running his business to be worried beyond 1) Will it work? 2) Is it worth the effort? 3) Will I get chewed-up like a salmon by a grizzly bear?

Too many of the posts I read are, "Get rich using Twitter!" posts. I am a realist, which is why it was refreshing to see Neal Patel's take on this today as well.

The real secrets are not the whats but the whys, the evaluation which is completely my own. I have seen too many people blindly read a list of to-dos only to burn themselves out. Honestly, I think that for most Twitter as a marketing tool takes more effort than it is worth. But if you are determined to spend the time and energy then this will keep you on a good track.

But Tamar, you're a rock star! You bring your audience with you. And the larger your audience is the quicker you can grow it. I believe it is much different for someone just starting their online reputation promotion.

PS: Hey, fancy meeting you here!

hjortur,

>> The number of my followers always takes a jump after a conversation with him.

I should have put that on the list. It's just like the self-help books that implore people to hang out with winners, not loosers.

>> Don't follow everybody right away, you'll look like a spammer.

I'm not sure spammer is the best description. More like desperate...ahh, I got it! You will look like a dog that is desperately/hopelessly chasing the tires on moving cars so it can pee.

Great list of customer relations and Internet crisis management tips.

Oh, and don't even get me started on Alaska Airlines after what happened in San Jose after SMX West. Don't make your home page (Seattle) fantastic and the rest of your website (San Jose, NYC, etc.) crappy.

The obvious example to begin with is GoDaddy's "Rejected" Superbowl Ad:

Here is an example that I think is more typical of comercial linkbait:

Now I know why I thought of lightbulbs. It's Bill's fault. But he is right. We have 41 Sphinns and if you subtract my own then that is 40.

>>Linkbaiting is like a forum troll, a rumor starter, etc... It's all meant to get reaction.

No No No No No! And No!

You are attaching a negative connotation where none belongs. Linkbaiting is designing content with the intention of getting links. It is neutral, no judgement involved. Every piece of linkbait should be judged on its own merits.

Saying that linkbaiting is like being a  forum troll is like saying all lawyers are snakes. It is like saying that I am a blackhat SEO because I get paid.

Linkbait can be beautiful. Publishing high quality, timely and relevant content is a terrific form of linkbait.

Contrived speculation like this is unseemly and irresponsible. This is the sort of thing that gives SEO a bad name!

Dude, Jayic, did you read the article? It is blatently tounge in cheek and filled with grins and giggles. I think that is why Andy put it in the Water Cooler. If the author, whom I must say is a swell and swankin' guy, was serious about this speculation it would be at the top of the Google seaction.

Think of this as LOLMatts

>>play of your cats
Didn't TS Elliot already do that?

Yeah, I wonder if this SEOinSeattle guy is for real too. He seems like a real shady character to me. I bet he got into all sorts of troubble when he was a kid. His dad probably wanted him to be a lawyer, but no, he had to go and become an SEO. Ingrate!

I don't like it. Not one bit. This policy raises barriers to entry and creates a land mine type trap for the entrepreneurially inclined but technically uninformed. It is impossible for Google to enforce this policy evenly and fairly and it forces them into a catch as can behind the eight-ball mode.

Of course it is Google's search engine and they get to make the rules. It kind of reminds me of WWII slogans like "Loose Lips Sink Ships" and highway signs that encourage you to report litter bugs. As The Kinks sang on their very bestest song, "Parinoia the destroyer."

Are you sure Danny? It appears the document you refer to is about redirecting from your original feed to the Feedburner feed on the originating blog website.

I am interested in the link on other websites, where the article is republished, linking to the original content through Frrdburner.

Of course, I could be wrong.
