Alright, I'm hoping that Wingnut is just joshing about using blackhattish tactics in the name of SEO, and what he's truly doing is exposing the dirty underbelly of ROR in hopes of change. I know that's what I'm hoping for and why I sphunn the post. Many bloggers wrote about what dastardly practices ROR and sites like it embrace and how these sorts of sites seem to rank more highly than they should...yet nothing changes...
The tool is interesting but there needs to be some documentation of whether its an official application, where the data comes from and when? I'd especially want to know the timeline for the base data the results are pulled from?
Also, I'm wondering if these types of applications are the result from bot accounts I see proliferating on Twitter?

Man, I so miss Threadwatch!
I use YG for personal reasons and completely agree...lots of niche info and audience there!
Hi Wingnut, I tried to comment at your blog, but had troubles with the captcha:
First, the captcha image doesn't display here for me...first time I've seen an option for audio file but glad it was there for me :)
Second, if others are like me...I want to be friendly but it's hard to make the first overtures to others. Its good to remember that we're all just people, the world is a lot smaller than we think and there's no such thing as having too many friends.

I wonder how people are managing follows/followers within vastly different groups...do you have more than one Twitter account?
Like leadegroot, I have always thought that reputation would be a big part of what gets sphunn...just like what gets a link. I wouldn't sphinn or link to anything I'd feel ashamed of admitting to my peers. However, this won't "fix all" because not everyone values their reputation in the community as much as others.
If you've got the most power/friends/money, then you've likely got something worthy to share. I say every man for himself...do what works for you and the best content will generally rise to the top.
Here's the thing for me on this...
Ruud, your article definitely earns merit for its clear and concise content. I particularly admire your choice of words/phrases and the simple illustrations. However, I don't think this article provides enough meat to be worthy of the trip over...even for a newbie.
To extend the information without bulking up the content, adding a menu of links to more info on anchor text issues would have added value. I would have also liked to have a taste of the next article in the series for dessert.
Hmmm...now I'm hungry.
Sphunn for the dissenting comments...self-appointed experts pointing fingers isn't a very good idea.

2. After we go out you'll need some reputation management.
I'll be keeping my ears open at Pubcon for more...
Thanks Rob, looks interesting...I'll spend some time this weekend checking out those that I haven't had the pleasure to know yet :-)

Funny, I just noticed this today! I was wondering if it was how they intentionally set it up or if it was a glitch...couldn't believe it was intended.
I would think that in time Google would notice that all backlinks were 301'd and give them reduced love?
BTW, if you like shady tactics, you'll love the one I heard about and admired/submitted today...check it out: http://sphinn.com/story/16305
Well, I was thinking the blackhat aspect was in the technical application of the popups.
Okay, I tried my very first submit this morning...using some of your suggestions. We'll see how it does, though so far it's gone to mid-second page with only two Sphinns so far.
Hmmm...lets see: Vegas, Chicago...hmm...Vegas or Chicago...nah, tis easy for me - gotta be Vegas baby! Besides, all the kewlies will be at PubCon :)
We really need more discussion on meetups during Pubcon...I don't wanna miss out on all the fun!
