The guy doesn't claim to be an SEO expert, he's simply sharing some of his experiences and concerns that he's found when dealing with SEO consultants.
I originally submitted this post because we see so many articles about industry news or how to apply SEO techniques we rarely think about what it might be like from a clients perspective.
@rustybrick - You're right Barry, the brief description doesn't fully explain it - you really need to read the article and see the screenshots for best effect. Thanks for adding a more detailed description
@Burgo - me neither, but I suspect Google will get it right on their main datacentres before such changes propogate to our local ones.

Story: Hooked on Link Baiting
@theGypsy - I can't believe I didn't check the URL before I submitted - looks like my sphinn trigger finger was too itchy to promote the article.
@danny - thanks for fixing this blunder of mine, I promise to be more careful in the future :)
Story: Matt Inman - an Evil Genius
All comes down with who's making the accusation - the search engines see clever manipulation of the SERPs as being morally wrong and therefor 'evil', but personally I wouldn't want to use the SE's as my moral compas either.
Perhaps Uber Genius? Mega Genius? My vote would go for "Matthew Inmann - really smart with that search an stuff... honest"

I didn't think to double-check the title of this submission before I hit the 'submit' button and ironically, the title of this post could do with some work as well :)
Story: SEO Education for Stumblers
No probs Kimberly - I see something I like, I sphinn it.
You write some good stuff which I believe is quite sphinn worthy - now it's just a waiting game to see who else agrees :)
Story: SEO Education for Stumblers
Thanks Kimberly - I'm sure no one will be losing face over this :)
No, I'm not a Hoobastank fan - I'm more into dance music (now after saying that I might lose face).
Thanks for the links and feedback MarketingGuy.
In regards to your comments about the article being Sphinn worthy or not... I tend to submit things that:
1. I find interesting
2. I think others will find interesting
3. that will start a good discussion on the topic
If you don't think the article is worth a Sphinn, then don't Sphinn it... that's your right as a contributing member of Sphinn.
It honest doesn't bother me - there are plenty of other articles that don't make the grade and Sphinn is a better place because of it.
That's a fair point MarketingGuy (an no probs about the hijack either) :)
Pat, your post needed images to be considered a good graphical explanation... I'm just glad you decided not to include any :)
Thanks Jeff - I think that it's quite common for people to dive into social media and have unrealistic expectations simply because they don't really understand how it all works or how to go about acheiving their goals (if they even have goals in the first place).
Most of the time they end-up spamming users for votes which isn't a great way to start an online friendship.
So the article was 1. to help explain how things work to people who are new... 2. to hopefully reduce some of the spam that the top users have to wade through on a daily basis.... which then 3. helps to further enhance the quality of the posts and strenghens the bonds between the users within their chosen social media community.
Thanks Dosh Dosh for the Sphinn and thanks to Rae and Ben for the great feedback - really appreciate it.
Congrats Jeff - It's always a pleasure to sphinn articles you submit because they're always of great quality.
Keep up the brilliant work!
Story: Sphinn Stories By Domain
I agree that the authors of the articles need more credit - but even if nothing changes, they're still getting quite a good deal. By being promoted on Sphinn, they gain traffic and exposure that they otherwise may never have received. Not to mention how targeted the Sphinn community is if the author is blogging about the search industry (which they probably would be if they gained a Sphinn in the first place).
When you look at it that way, does it really matter if someone else gets the credit for promoting the article since the author still gets all the benefit from the exposure without having to do anything?
Really liked the post and it ties-in perfectly with my 2008 New Years resolution to become more social.
I'm with Burgo - how about heading up to Brisbane after SMX Sydney Australia in April :)
Well Facebook is apparently more popular than porn according to this article :

Thanks SEODisco for the Sphinn and thanks to everyone for your comments.
Just to clarify (and this applies to pretty-much anything I write about) - these techniques have worked well for both me and my clients, but obviously every niche, every industry, every website and every client is very different and what works for one may not work for others.
With saying that, I hope that it has given you some ideas and if you do give it a shot, I hope it works out as well for you as it has for me.
Thanks again!
Web, Images, News, Maps etc. etc.
Given all the places that have attempted legal action against Google, I they could add a new tab just for "lawsuits"
