Increasingly with the rise of social media, I wonder if SEO Theory's concern with HTML coding is a necessity.
Why not just have the 5-10 posts from SEO Book and throw out most of the rest (aka 70%).
Interesting Video Pitch sent to WIll Video for Food....
Great sphinn!
Montgomery Alabama was near the top!?!?!?
I think it just proves that the sample group was small, or that perhaps city doesn't matter a ton.
I wish those were adjusted for cost of living, because without that the info isn't particularly helpful.
Thats true. The more vertical social networks we get....the harder is it to keep up.
I think the article, though, fails to make a distinction between social news vs. social networking sites. And even between Linked In vs. Facebook there is enough difference to justify a different rationalization for getting on and a different strategy.
I think doing away with social media makes as much sense as unplugging your cell phone.....but the points are VERY well taken. Focus is key.
Why not do a quick breakdown of someones weaknesses in SEO & search marketing....followed with a short paragraph or two of generic explanation of how you could help?
The above still sounds a little spammy...
Agreed. At the end of the day...i guess we have to acknowledge the relationship, however.
Interesting addition from Murray. The part about Storytelling seems to be the most useful in terms of fundamentally re-thinking how we do communication.
People say storytelling now...but generally just mean branding in drag.
Decent article about ethics and accountability in the SEO business.
I think the premise is slightly flawed--this isn't unique to outsourcing SEO.
Interesting. I found about half of the tips useful--but not really new or fresh or inspiring. Still spunn.
I'll be blunt...this post is useless without three questions being answered...no offense to the author...
Does that mean Ning or Crowdvine? How do you get people to join or notice you? How do you get people to create content and participate?
Sphunn. Alternatively, I don't think most people extend beyond 5 social bookmarking sites (Reddit, Mixx, Digg, Stumble Upon, del.icio.us). I think having 20 bookmarking icons is a little excessive.
Great post.
I think Linked In Answers is a better way to draw on the "wisdom of crowds" Also, it allows you get outside the echochamber.
The chat room effect on an election or Oscar night is interesting and helpful.
Twitter is still severly limited by asymetric following.
It has to be far simpler...
1) Listen. Play anthropologist.2) Capture the Zeigheist or meme (or contravene it or point out where it goes awry)3) Say it with style4) Contribute. Create a community. Capture the pay it forward mentality. Create relationships over time. Target influencers to spread the word.5) Rinse. Repeat
Wow....very nice. Not a coder...but will try to pass this along to my coding friends.
I really like Maki and am a regular reader. However, I think this is one of the weaker articles from Dosh Dosh. First, anyone in with a significant amount of time in social media is the submitter is the single most important factor. There are fetishes around certain submitters and we might as well be honest that those biases exist.
Second, audience awareness.
Third, relationship and community.
Fourth, lets be honest: Highly provocative, odd, funny, or
"Highly entertaining. An entertaining piece of content can come not only in the form of written text but videos or pictures. Humor is especially powerful when applied on current events or industry happenings."
Fifth, design and style is far more important than most of the factors listed.
The list in the post fundamentally misses the point. It does not meet the high standards of posts I've seen Maki put out. Just my thoughts.
