@incrediblehelp, @NickWilsdon:
No more widgetbait, no more ads for link building, so no more made up linkbaits would fit in perfectly... From now on, linkbait pages only count if they're being referenced by Wikipedia.
@Jill:
Google's cache has a few ;)
@BenjArriola
Good post, but I'd add in the subject of the page and/ or use anchor text as well. Getting 40k links to a page with a subject that makes it to Google's hottrends will be less problematic than getting 40k links to a brand new page about promotional gifts.
You've got incredibly quick fingers, Maki. You even beat me in submitting this one :)
Dan, in this case it's because Maki was 2 mins quicker with writing a description than me. Since I didn't confirm the submission yet, he was able to submit the same one (or the other way round). But I do get your point here ;)
This is a post that could have been from 2001. How Google works explained on an MSN page?
"Just make sure the site you choose [for link building] has a pagerank of over 5."
"If the page rank bar is gray, that indicates a ban."
"Google's bots read web pages from the topmost left corner of your site to the bottom right."
"1. Real SEOs … Don’t wear hats in public
Crap. I'm gonna have to change my avatar...and logo...and numerous picture of myself...and my chosen style. Well, that's SEO for ya; always changing."
Speaking of which; have you seen Tad here lately? :P
I'd really recommend doing some research before make statements like this ;)
Excellent post, in fact this post contains tips on how to reach a-list journalists, written by an a-list journalist...
"If you see something that's spam, push the SPAM link/button. When 5 of you do that, the post will go away automatically"
So I guess registering 4 extra accounts will work as well? :P
No just kidding. Like always, I'll be hitting that spam button whenever another car dealer or freaky dentist tries to submit irrelevant stuff. The What's New page is probably the most important page on Sphinn, so it's important to keep it clean...
If no one sphinns this topic it'll only be open for testing for about 2 minutes :)
Story: Link Building this Week
Contact us page is optimized for [contact us].
If you do it properly, not only for [contact us], but also for terms like [phone number company name] or [address company name]. In SEOmoz' case, the contact info is quite easily found on the home page, but on some websites it can be quite difficult to find the contact page if you're looking for SEOmoz phone number and find this page in stead of this one...
SEOmoz' problem is not that the contact us page isn't listed in Google. Its problem is that it mentions the term [phone number] on 155 pages.
Part of the problem is also that the contact page has less followed internal links pointing to it than some of the other pages containing [phone number], resulting in the possibility that Google thinks that an other page might be more important.
BTW, I didn't mean [SEO blogger phone number], but [SEO company phone number].
[phone high rankings]
[phone key relevance]
[phone 1st query]
[phone Tribal IM]
(Aaron Wall's ClientSide SEM doesn't have a phone number listed...)
Sorry about that - we're back up now, just a touch slow.
A touch? It took me over half an hour just to reach Q32 :P
stumbled it, bookmarked it, blogged about it, etc... Kudos to the developer!
I also wonder how many people submit to the Yahoo directory for the traffic the directory is going to bring (ya right), and how many people buy that link for the link juice...c'mon, who's kidding who here? Yahoo is a paid link....pure and simple....
Come on Jim, you know that you're paying for the review when you submit something to the Yahoo directory. That's why submitting an adult website is twice as expensive; those types of sites take much longer to review...
:P
and the rules google gives for why it's OK to pay Yahoo (for review and non-guaranteed) should apply to everyone.....otherwise, like Bill said, Google should punish Yahoo for selling links.
I couldn't agree more...
