Rustybrick showed in a post this morning how yahoo is now showing different results in site explorer based on being logged into verified accounts, this may just be something to do with the changes.

What I would like to know is what you consider "fads" Jill.
People exchanging links predates the engines, so obviously not recip links.
Directories also predate the engines, so that can't be one.
Keyword metatags had decent value when altavista was in its prime, so obviously that was not a fad, even tho they hold no real value anymore.
Making sure your pages have the keywords you expect it to rank for in the copy, with a few tweaks such as bolding, italicizing, headings, etc. has always worked, and continues to do so. So that takes that from the list of fads too.
Anchor text in IBL's has played a major part of things since google put so much stock in it right from their start, even tho many so-called SEO's called doing it "blackhat", you included before you started seeing things a little clearer. So this is obviously not a fad.
Buying advertising (paid links) also predates the engines, so that obviously is not a fad.
I always seem to find it funny that some people insult the testers of this industry as "algo chasers", then as soon as their data is published or posted, they surely do not mind using the facts and figures that those of us who do all the testing provide in panels at SES, and elsewhere. Not to mention adopting it into their own arsenal of tactics.
I recall when some people stated emphatically that anchor text was a fad and would not continue to work if it even did at all at the time.

if you use a url like: http://www.seofox.com/blog it shows incorrectly in the profile page
its displaying as http://http//www.seofox.com/blog
however if you use a domain only it shows properly ie: http://www.semtutor.com/

Related to what Othelisa said about hyphens in usernames, the same seems to be true of periods in usernames.
