What a waste of campaign money to run an ad like that. I hope Google is charging them a high CPC for that.
If you need a reason to sphinn this, here it is:

Plurk would be so much better if the Karma score didnt hinder it's functions for the users.

This isn't solely about David, nor is it only about getting thanks. Digg and the way it treats the users that participate most is a great example, as is Twitter and its seemingly endless problems with what feels like little to no concern for the user.
If every site gave out smiley faces, gold stars, or chocolate chip cookies as a way of saying thanks for participation we would all be worse off than we are now. All the man wants is a bit of respect, and who doesn't.
For such a good article I don't understand why this isn't getting more sphinns.
very interesting indeed. Seems to be some validation missing in the experiments though. Mainly surrounding the first link = nofollow second link anchor ignored.
If I was stuck in an elevator with 6 people, I think SEM'ers would be more entertaining that 6 SEO'ers. Not to mention the fact that the following day that news would be spread all over the net lol.
the earlier test that I sphunn on this topic I had made mention in the comments that it didnt sound right that the second link following a nofollowed link was given no relevance. Glad to see this put to the test.
I cant get enough Plurk! Find and follow me here: http://tinyurl.com/6ls8y4
I don't know that I would have done any better, seeing a fake story I wrote in the Sun would increase my mouth size 10 fold. Mixx in the likes of Twitter Sphinn, Digg and Stumble (yes mixx too sillys) and thats one big mouth. I still say Kudos to Lyndoman.

A bit harsh in the title, but a good read none the less. My co-workers and I have been fighting over a ranking for over 3 months now. We all said we'd keep it fair, but if you look at "content writing advice" and some of the backlinks we've all gotten... well its been fun. Compition really helps to fuel the fire of motivation.

Haha, I've seen some of his other videos. Pretty funy stuff, and not bad advice at times.
Hugoguzman- you said it best. This post should have been titled "With out inbound links, your site wont get indexed, gain PR, or rank for any keywords." But then, that wouldn't have caused such a ruckus would it.
I've had internal pages rank in the top 3 that did not have any inbound links from external sites, or visable PR. Internal linking, once your external linking has been built up, is just as important.
I think myspace was the most successful with their attempt to get people to go online (to re-watch the ads from the game). I doubt anyone was filling out their resume on CareerBuilder.com in the middle of the game. Bonus points myspace, your ad made people go and watch the ads over again, some needs a raise over there.
Story: Social Nightmare
Looks very open book to me SB. OpenID perhaps not so open? If jfj had picked something like Nike, or Yahoo! I would be more understanding of them revoking the name, but having a neutral term like "Search" taken away... Wonder what will happen with that page in the coming months.
They could always have Rand be the face man for the firm, then everyone will expect nothing but top notch White Hat SEO. :D
I agree, not worth the money for the average site. The kind of websites that I, and the author of this post, work on would benefit from this. That is if Yahoo was worth the effort in the first place.
