Wow.... This is a great resource! Especially since I am about to build my first site!! Cheers :)
This is an excellent article!
My one question is before language weren't there hieroglyphics, pictographs etc.? I felt like there was a suggestion that generations could not pass information onto the next because there was no language, however they could pass along stories and history through these mediums. I can't wait to read part 2!
@asnider
Hieroglyphics, pictographs, etc. are all forms of language. Even cave paintings are, essentially, a form of language.
Well, if that is the case than the article's suggestion that generations could not pass information is inaccurate. Thanks!
Great stuff! Thanks for including the shout out to your favebloggers :o)
Story: Linkedin for Dummies
I wish I could Sphinn this article 1,000 times :) I wanted to post the comment I left on Matt's site here as well:
I will begin with a "cheers to that!" I was in Ireland a year ago speaking with a fellow at a pub. He called it his "local." This conversation reminded me of your point #3. Community, sense of ownership and belonging is so important because when you build real relationships you build loyalty. The most "popular" people I know are genuine and the most successful social media is too.
Story: CEO's perspective of SEO...
Wonderful insights here... Hearing it from the horses mouth on how communication is king in the CEO view of SEO!
That is a pretty impressive list. I think it will be interesting to watch how many tech industries will dominate in the upcoming years.
Good article!
I especially liked Rand Fishkin's and Debra Mastaler's tips :)
I couldn't agree more with your concepts about engaging in industries outside SEO. Contacts made in this fashion seem to be more valuable from a business perspective because it is my belief they bring in more business. If you are the only SEO they know and you have an interest in their business you are the first person they will go to for services as well as the first person they recommend their friends and associates too. Good article!
Thanks for the article! It is a good read :)
@ hugoguzman - Marketing is all about soliciting and ultimately it is those who produce good content and network for links that benefit ;)
Great post with solid advice. I was always told in order to be a good writer, read! It goes for content ideas as well as executing a blog eloquently. Cheers!
Story: Why SEO is Like Fashion
An interesting point and creative analogy... However, I would like to point out fashion is also cyclicle and trends come back (can we say lycra pants....ouch). So following this same train of thought is there a potential for SEO strategies to come back en vouge?
Story: The Fallacy of SEO Celebrity
I believe becoming a resource, and better yet an authoritative resource, is a worthy goal. Education and knowledge sharing is so important in this industry. If these factors are a part of your SEO business then I think that the illusive "fame" will follow. I think clinging on to social netwroks to try and gain noterirty without substance is a flash in the pan.
Story: VIDEO: Paid Search 101 Rap
Thank you for the thorough post! A possible blow to the illusive PageRank system eh? Imagine, using actual user data rooted in reality instead of asssumption- what a novel concept :O) Thanks again!
