Well I have to land on the anti-India side. Tried it many times over the years. Have even been to New Dehli & Hyderabad to work with them. I would say 90% of the time we have not gotten what we were promised. It's just not worth it any more. We built a fine system using our own resources and get good results.
You know what's frustrating for me? First I read Eric's column and thought "damn, he is slamming our blog" - Link Building Best Practices. Then I read all of the comments above and felt a little sorry for him because people seem to be wanting more from him than they would probably ever provide publicly in their own area of expertise.
But now I see he has set up his own Best Practices section. This is going to seem self serving, but we created Link Building Best Practices for the exact reasons that are being described above. To hear best practices from others -- and share them with all.
We truly set it up to serve the link building community. It is open to all - write a post and send it to us - if it's good we'll post it - including links to your references. We have had a couple submissions so far, but I am certain there are many more of you out there than can add some quality info.
This is not meant to usurp Eric's blog (I doubt I could), his is more of a quesiton/answer approach. Ours is for others to share their own experiences, receive a little credit, and educate others all at the same time.
I did not add a link to the blog on purpose - hate to be confused with a spammer. But I think you know where to find us.
Still skeptical. I see the SEO community gaming this one big time. It will be interesting to see this play out. Time will tell.
Glad to have found the Hobo site. Since this is about linkbait, you might like to see my post:

You might be interested in a bit of research we did at Vertical Measures. We searched the web and evaluated SEO & SEM courses offered at colleges and universities. Unfortunately the list is not a very long one. You can see the entire study at http://www.verticalmeasures.com/education.html
We are also big believers in SEO/SEM education. For those of you interested (or dissappointed) in what is being offered at the univeristy level, there is a bit of research on this at http://www.verticalmeasures.com/education.html
I just found this post and was going to Sphinn it - my very first one. But I am just as glad to see it here. This is a must read for any link builder. And not because of any magic bullet or silver bullet as theGypsy said, but because it is as close to a concensous based on stats as you will ever get in this industry.
I also like the fact that it is a business based on wisdom -- otherwise all the mortgage brokers would be SEOs right now.
As someone said on some other post some where about something...
PR7 is the new PR5
PR6 is the new PR4
PR5 is the new....
OK this one actually got me to finally take the 2 minutes and register at Sphinn. I wish I was that creative -- well done.
