2006 is over, why the continued obsession over tags?

I recently tested a series of tag plugins for Wordpress and got zero SEO lift. Google seems to be discounting these.

Try submitting this on a web design forum because it has little or no SEO value.

Careful, I had a server I was pinging go out of business and since trackbacks come after pings in the current execution order my outbound trackbacks broke it wasn't easy to find the cause to say the least.

Hey everyone, I messed this up!

This is Google creating a program to create relations with UNIVERSITY alumni relations programs, not Google creating an alumni relations program.

Apologies to all for my mistake.

I have a PR5 blog and no sitelinks when Googling my name.

Yet, many of the "penalized" paid links sites have sitelinks when their PR 2 site has been allegedly whacked.

Anyone else see a contradiction here?

btw...alllegedly webmaster central allows you to do what you suggest once a site has sitelinks.

Danny,

I got 5 or 6 queries to see this Saturday night. After reading your entry, I checked again and got no del.icio.us results integrated in the results presently. So it's apparently not a US versus UK thing.

It'll be interesting to see whether is appears again or whether it was just a signal to say Yahoo! was using del.icio.us for relevancy now.

I did a post that took this conversation several notches higher than Techcrunch. I welcome your reactions. Since it's in the same conversation, I'll put it here so please don't submit it.

If you want CEOs to get search, you need to show them the way or get the boards of directors to hire CEOs that do understand search. :)

I know alot of people just want to throw up their arms and give up on the c-level, but perhaps building a bridge with someone that can speak both languages might be a more advisable course. There is a TON of radical change management that needs to take place for CEO's to get search. It can only eventually happen through engagement and education.

It will be the year of mobile spam from traditional, non-search marketers, mobile social media - maybe.

2008 ain't gonna be the year mobile search breaks out (in the USA)

Will all of these plugins be wordpress 2.3 compliant before wordpress 2.4 arrives? Will a process to make upgrading less painful in terms of compatibility be created?

Wouldn't that be great. :)

The way I read this it is pure SMS text PUSHING - this is not search.

I think the bigger issue is that the original source of this story itself, a Google News blog entry, is not in Google News.

Jason says: "We're really lucky in that we don't have a clock ticking like other startups typically do."

That statement sums up one of the major problems out there in the VC world today. Late 90's dot com people getting a free pass with a different set of rules than people with fresh idesa starting out today. I know of quite a few people with search start up ideas that couldn't get a wooden nickel raised yet you chose to gloat about the fact you have different rules applied to you. My question is do you really need the special rules?

While I can see that either could be correct, I've associated SEM as PPC and SEO as organic.

I think the segmentation has likely been formed by the term SEM being used in paid search sessions and discussion more than anything else.

I hear what you are saying...

Though I think you'd want to encourage and reward incremental improvements in products. Something needs to!

Yes, this is important. But so few people pay attention to these details. There are other things you can do too. Might have to write a post myself.

I put a comment on his blog yesterday and it's still not approved. It says to email him if you have questions, yet the about me page has no email address. Hmmm. Me thinks this article won't serve it's intended purpose in this current state.

Based on the Google image results I see today, I see no evidence that Picasa is being favored which for me destroys the reason you need to do this, besides Flickr is better for SEO overall.
