(wrote this in the Google group too)
Hey All,

Dave Snyder here. Our company Search & Social, displays our Customer Service Promises http://www.searchandsocial.com/our-promise.html , and our SEO Ethics http://www.searchandsocial.com/seo-ethics.html.

We do this as our personal promise to our clients that we will guard their brands. It is also the foundation of mine and Jordan Kasteler's philosophy on Client Services.

What I dont think many people get is that Black Hat's dont often due client work, so the real threat to client service industry is the proverbial snake oil salesman.

I do not think a regulated industry is the answer, as no other marketing outlet has such a regulatory factor, and the FCC is not an example because that is not their purpose. This needs to be about education and personal responsibility.

In the end our code is our personal stance on the issue, and I have no problem with it remaining a personal stance.

This is pretty interesting, because as much as some hate it Sphinn is a strong personal brand builder. The one that really sticks out to me is Utah SEO Pro. Everytime I talk about Jordan I can't even use his name, I just say Utah SEO Pro, or that idiot. :-)

Lots of good ones on here, I like the concept, and I agree I have crushes on all the Sphinn ladies due to sexy avatar poses.

Tamar,

The great thing about FF is that you dont really spread yourself much thinner since the platform puts everything in one place. I think its uses havent even been fully discovered yet. I see the tool as an amazing link building tool, but its ORM uses are also very powerful. Lets think outside the box of simple alerts and begin to look at reputation in a networking sense; that is what politicians do.

I gave you five compelling reasons, and this is more about monitoring, which Wordpress blogs do not allow

I think the article just gives people confused about the widget optimization concept a clearer perspective on what is and isn't acceptable in the eyes of people that work in different markets and roles in our industry. Basically giving an informed perspective on the concept.

Sorry your article didnt go hot. This is a social news site, and  the social outweighs the news sometimes.

But a desphinn brother? Because you don't like someone as crappy as me being called an expert? I'll have him edit me out if it will make you happy. I mean I am hoping this whole thing is a joke, because people in this industry have been screwing with me for the last three days and I am about to break.

@Darren I know it was a joke now, cause no way a dude that calls himself "The World's Greatest SEO" would actually take issue with people being labeled experts.

I think the expert title by the way was not based on widget optimization, but rather on link building. But still it is subjective. I think prowess should denote the "expert" label, and I am not sure that there are many (although I know there are some) better link experts than those questioned in this article.

No matter what though thinking about it now it is your right to desphinn whatever you want since this is a social news site based on votes.

I do find it slightly bizzare that someone labeling themselves "The Worlds Greatest SEO" takes issue with people appealing to celebrity.

Also I really hope you don't take everything Matt Cutts says as fact.

Darren,

I get it, and thats why I wrote my second comment, cuase I got too heated too fast. I am a big dumb animal, and when I feel cornered I don't reason I just tear peoples arms off. Its a sick byproduct of how I grew up.

If you are going to SES SJ I will buy you a beer to show no hard feelings.

SEO is being redefined.

As more and more data is used in algos SEO becomes more about how users interact with your site.

The look that SEOs only care about rankings, means that they are only a mechanic and not an engineeer.

So you would rather pour your resources into ranking for a high traffic term that gets you a 50% bounce rate and .50%  conversion, rather than a mid traffic term that gets you a 24% bounce rate and 2.5% conversion rate? That doesn't show much forthought into what your "optimization" work does for the overall end result, which is to make money.

This game changes if you are a pure publisher working by CPM. But if you are any kind of site that works off of revenue how can you justify simply ranking high without obsessing voer conversion.

Not going to retain many clients based off simply getting them unproductive traffic.

This was my blog post, and I really like Sphinn comments more than comments on my blog, just for the reason of social interaction.

Not sure how all this started.

these guys have been drinking to many cafe lattes. I think the ISPs of the world would be hard pressed to push plans like this with the existance of Google and Microsoft, and those companies constant lust for online media supremacy. Pretty interesting theory though. I am sure it has been talked about, but what it is the feasibility.

I can think of one more...Jordan Kasteler. Check in on him in a few years, and I am sure you will be blown away by whatever it is he will be doing. He has a great handle on social media optimization, and how to leverage content.

hot post! Nice mix of sarcasm and reality..you are dead on about Google's data grab and the self contained web push. If Google developed a micro-blogging platform, would I even leave? Just kidding, but their software initiatives have really continued to push their search dominance and will also add the fuel to their data hold.

Try using SEOdigger.com to get a more complete reference point of your best search queries. I do not completely trust any infomration Google gives me, and SEO digger.com uses industry standard metric tools such as wordtracker.com.

The recession will drive search marketing and social media marketing to the forefront of overall marketing discussions for the next few years, but an increase in competition will most likely lead to a decrease in overall prices. As LtDraper stated above KPOs will likely pop up in the industry, and even if they dont the large amount of overseas freelancers will cause a huge gap between high end a low end services. More competition in most markets leads to price wars, and the consumer tends to benefit.

Keep in mind to that this whole thing could swing towrds social media as well. The recession is coming at a time when social media marketing and optimization have become buzz words. As social media slowly challenges search for traffic generating power it to could challenge for budgets. The only thing it is really missing is solid metrics to account for investment.
