Constantly tweaking content can be a pointless process. In the article, the problem was that the site owner was over obsessed with rankings and the point was as long as sales are steady and conversions are good, and nothing else has changed leave it alone. Unfortunately, too many site owners overreact when a ranking drops just one or two positions in the SERPs. And, I agree with Jill, getting those anchor text links will likely show better results anyway. If the copy sucks or is inaccurate, yes, change it. Otherwise, you'll be chasing your own tail in circles every time your position adjusts.

Good points, Eric. As a subcontractor for web designers and other SEM firms, I often wonder if I might not be better off concentrating only on link building services.

Getting strong incoming links is getting to be more and more of a challenge, and although it can be very tedious work it's pretty much guaranteed that there will always be a strong underlying demand for good link builders since it doesn't look like the SEs will ever completely remove their importance from their algos.

Great fun. There will always be disagreement on the "correct" answers and the wording, the tendency to overthink, etc. but such is the nature of quizzes in the first place. I'm happy with a 77 for a quick pass through on the questions. This is the best example of link bait I've seen in some time, and the reinforcement provided with the "correct" answers actually provides something of value too!

Good Sphinn, Lee. The diverse comments on the post itself are worth the price of admission. I have to sheepishly admit I joined Facebook very recently and LinkedIn shortly before that. I still have to agree to some extent with some of the comments on the Sphinned and/or Sphun post that the old farts may be taking over what used to be considered a great social tool for the college crowd - much like marketing has taken over the Internet in general, from what used to be primarily a valuable educational and defense reference tool. Facebook, YouTube, etc., once powered by and for the people are just morphing into marketing tools like everything else. Maybe companies should just drive their own social media outlet, and maybe it should be called Fartbook :)

What I don't get is why this piece has already received 20 Sphinns. After all, it's just a short blog entry that links to a discussion going on somewhere else and posts a few quotes. Yes, the discussion is of interest, but shouldn't the actual discussion receive the Sphinns, not a paragraph that points to a discussion elsewhere? Even the destination of the one link on the page that points to rustybrick's Should Google Hide the Toolbar PageRank Score post seems to me like a post that would have been more worthy of Sphinning - at least it states an opinion.
