Anyone who thinks that marketing is not intrinsically connected with product design and usability probably needs shooting. ;-)
As we say in marketing - "you can't polish a turd": any marketer needs to make sure the product rocks (and converts) before they even think about SEO or any other kind of activity.
In the interests of balance: a. it's hardly fair to criticise Yahoo! for not copying Google (Preferences) then criticise it for copying Google (autocomplete). And you could of course use Yahoo! Search by typing yahoo.co.uk (or yahoo.ie) and using that big searchy thing at the top of the page.
The reason I don't use it is because I find that often the links to results time out (and have done for years) - yahoo! seem to have a real problem with their redirect servers on all their services.
Disclosure: I'm ex-Yahoo! - you can tell us because we're so indoctinated we always spell it with a "!" (known as the Y-bang, incidentally)
