A lot of designers use the footer to link back to themselves, which is fair of course, but then they are unrelated.. then again we have these sponsored wp themes that a lot of bloggers use which again have a lot of unrelated links.. and we have plugins like say Spam Karma or Askimet which many people link to from their footer.. technically all these are usually not related to what the content on the site is about..
Now what can someone do about this, maybe not use sponsored themes (which were rejected by the themes community anyway) ..but what about other genuine appreciation links?
Or are these fine to keep..?
It does.. gives a lot more option and handy for those companies which don't have much idea about social emdia.. might make it easier for them to tap into it.
An after effect perhaps would be a buzzing domain marketplace.. especcially with domain prices set to go every year.. people might rather invest in existing mature domains... you will also find better word combinations in older domains .. interesting..
True.. the case with the web is that competition is always present but not always competing. No matter what you do your competitor is just a tab (or a window away). Also growth on the web is primarily consolidation and partnership.. no point ticking off others for short terms benefits. And of course when one make tall claims.. everyone else tries hard to find a chink int he armour.. why garner such unwanted attention.. a good product will earn credibility no matter what and that's all you need to strive towards
On the face of it as a search engine user I might appreciate it.. but it sort of seems unnecessary .. it is not innovative in the larger sense of the word..
What is the biggest threat (or nuisance) that Google faces in improving user experience?
Ahem.. like Graywolf said... see the post date.. or better still see Darren's twitter..
Being new I don't know if this has been discussed on sphinn often.. but if this trend holds true I think social media marketing will start holding a much bigger clout as a marketing and promotion medium
Exactly James... I think most marketeres suck up to quantitative metrics simply because all said and done people are still skeptical about anything online..because it is not tangible.. and so ROI and quantifiable numbers are needed to prove an online point.. and in qualitative figures we are talking about facotrs like human behaviour (like dave mentions in the post) which is hugely subjective.. its like those who understand it well will do well because of the direct reach it provides.. and others will simply go back to more definable matters..
"Take Your Plans to Action" been seeing this message everywhere recently.. as if some omen like in the Alchemist..
Story: SEO/SEM Job Market Growing?
agree with charlie and todd ... also if we look at how newer regions are getting into Internet and related businesses, this discussion would seem a no-contest..especially with regards to emerging makets where a lot of startups are building themselves up primarily based out of the net.. and most of their prime concern is to bring in as much search traffic to their sites (I get many such requests..)
I am kind of the newcomer in question here.. been just 2 days.. leaving that fact aside I think it finally boils down to what people are on sphinn for..
if most people are here with the whole idea to become a super sphinner to generate an "A list" image to finally drive traffic then the "herd mentality" of the top guys being sphinned more can't be avoided..
on the other hand if the majority have a clear perspective about why they are here, and if it is primarily to be part of a larger community and contribute as well as benefit to its holistic view point then no matter what is submitted or sphunn.. it will generate the desired result.. if this is what most sphinn public wants then those who are in a position of influence will have to work that extra little bit to promote sphinn in that direction ... rather than showing it in a light other than what sphinn is...
I wasn't expecting it when I began to read the article, but it most certainly changed my perspective about approaching a niche market on a general level..oflline as well as online..
