While the title made me scratch my head to; I have to admit that it was the title that got me looking at the article itself out of maybe a hundred new feeds that came in over night.
I wouldn’t particularly change the title as I’m sure many others are going to take a look purely because of the confusing yet concise title.
I've watched them all so far and they keep getting better and better. Stick with it Barry; takes time to build up just like everything else.
Ooops I completely read the topic wrong. Removing my previous comment

Agreed completely with your blog post Zak. Microsoft is still stuck in a 'control' phase that they should really get over. The days of not having to worry about competitors taking away their users has been LONG gone.

My first response when I seen this title was, "Bah!". That is a sign of irritation because I couldn't believe that DoshDosh would submit such a thing and I sure wasn't going to think that Andy Beard would believe such a thing either... way to go on pulling my chain; lit a little fire under my butt.
After reading the article though I feel that the article hit a home run on many different levels starting at the disclaimer where Andy writes, "Every single time I write a post mentioning PageRank, I get comments about PageRank not being important for ranking."
Anyways, if I had three thumbs up I'd have them all raised high on this post. Definitely worth the Sphinn.

I wouldn't mind additional open communication from Google. However I'd question the ‘scalability’ of such a task. Sure it might be as simple as a few clicks and a few seconds but how would you feel if you were in Google’s situation with possibly thousands or tens of thousands of reinclusion requests? All of a sudden those 3 – 4 extra seconds to click on an additional link, button or what have you ads up.
I doubt Google is ignoring the request guys. It certainly isn’t a new request by any means. However they have their reasons for not following through with this at this time.
Keep at it; maybe one day it’ll be implemented and we can move forward with our next requests.

In 2008 I think we will see many more niche based social networking sites come into play and start taking a small share of traffic and advertisers away from the bigger social network players like Facebook and Myspace.
Due to the increase in niche based social networks I also feel that in 2008 we will see a decent amount of advertisers pull funds from their search marketing campaigns and put some of those funds into social networking. I think this will be the case at least until Google can implement behavioral data with Doubleclick.
My most radical prediction, based completely off of my own interest to see it happen, is that a search engine will start requiring that webmasters validate inbound links prior to any link value being passed to their website. Even at the frustration of Internet marketers and website owners, including myself, I think this route would be a great implementation to help keep website owners / marketers responsible for their link building practices.
Hello Jeremy,
Good post and getting some good attention to boot. I might just add to your description here on Sphinn and point out that their is plenty a Social Network can do to control and protect their network. Adding No Follows or coding in restrictions that strip out links are two examples of ways a Social Network can protect themselves from site owners such as yourself and I. :-)

Thanks Zak,
The discussion I started instead of a story can be found at http://sphinn.com/story/19617 with some minor comments going on at this time.
I also decided I'd get a few views on this topic so I wrote an article on http://forums.seroundtable.com/showthread.php?p=11980#post11980 . I'm on a new account their so couldn't post any links but I hope the article is good enough to give the general idea of the problem as well as what Social site dropped the ball. If anyone has sufficient posts on that forum to give the URL to the blog page or either sphinn topics then i'd appreciate it.
Story: Social Nightmare
Scott,
What is it you want to know? I provided screenshots on the actual page on my blog.

Story: Social Nightmare
Hmm I think I've set this post up wrong. For anyone curious, the actual details of the problem can be read at http://www.10minutes.org/social-network-nightmare/.
No wonder Scott said he didn't understand all of the details. Whoops!
I decided to take the plunge and ask the question via comment on Matt's blog.

I remember when negative keywords was introduced to Google Adwords. It was a much needed addition to the service.
I look forward to the day when I can block sites based on multiple criteria that I don't want showing up on my Google Adsense ads through out my sites.
I plan on grabbing up some link data while this is still an option. Eight months of not monitoring this for my sites and I am kind of interested to see what has changed. The first thing I've noticed is that A LOT of my sites have a significant reduction in links reported by MSN. About time...
I might as well put in my comments as well on this topic since it ends up being a topic discussed all over the place when an update comes around.
I'd be curious to know your opinions on the following situation...
This is my blogs first update that would have given it a green smudge on the Toolbar. Prior to this it was 0 (white). This update pushed it to a PR2 for the home page and several individual posts ended up being PR 3's. My blog is http://www.10minutes.org.
I would accept that except a socail bookmark page I created and haven't given MUCH attention to or as much as I've given my blog received a PR 4. http://www.ClaimID.com/search/.
So how on earth does a blog that has had all of my attention for several months straight get a PR 2 when I haven't sold links? I do link out to other sites but in most cases it is referencing other blog posts or tools that i find or use regularily.
I don't much care for the Toolbar update and the chaos that comes with it but I couldn't help but to scratch my head on this one.
Globo Gym? I know you told me what it was but I am curious to know who else knows where that is a reference from...
I've sphunn this mainly because of the Bush push and because I liked the analogy you've used. Good read!
All I meant to point out is that there is a lot of talk in regards to paid directories being a way to game the search engines and while all that is going on Google is encouraging us to submit to Yahoo!
Your both right that not submitting to directories is not violating Google Guidelines but if in the future or even now directories become worthless in the eyes of Google it might as well be added to those Guidelines; the only difference is that the directory link would be worthless while there wouldn't be any negative impact on your own site.
I guess the answer to how much opinion can be stomached is entirely up to the person taking it in. There are so many blogs, newsletters and even forums with TONS of information out there that anyone who counts on any one source is at risk of getting taken for a ride in some way or another.
Personally I think on a Social Network environment like Sphinn there is room for opinions all the time regardless who they come from or how accurate they are. For example, I may have ran a test for a certain keyword and achieved a certain desired result. If I then turn around and blog about it it is still my opinion even if it was a sure thing for me. If anyone takes my words as gold then i'd be concerned because even I have to rely on other peoples opinions.
Should an entire discussion be avoided for fear of making enemies? No absolutely not, however i'm not so sure dirty laundry improves the quality of this social network (or other mediums) and it certainly doesn't get you any favor with anyone who may side with the other person.
Positive outcome.. hard to say, I doubt one opinionated post of someone in the industry is going to cause the entire industry to go up in arms and want to start publically pointing fingers.
What are your thoughts Little Miss SEO? If it were Danny that you had a disagreement with, would you call it out publically where his 'SEO Clan' could attack it or would you keep it to yourself and maybe a few trusted individuals?
If I have a problem with anyone, I tend to keep it to myself and share it with only a few selected people that I think I can trust or feel would benefit from what I have to say but in this case that would be inner circle and not an entire network.

Zak,
I guess everyone is going to do their own thing. Many people would investigate and should when it comes to possibly proving a point with SEO Rockstars. I think at that point though my preferred route would be to blog about the factual data you found without pointing out someone who said it wrong OR privately bring it up to that person and give them a chance to respond to you privately or publically.
I disagree with a lot of people sometimes but if I have good reason to I tend to let them continue on doing what they do so long as it doesn't effect me, my clients or friends.
To each their own though right?

I'm Sphinning this for a few reasons.
The first is because I think this blogger has come a long way since his very first post on a blogger hosted blog.
The second reason is that it is a good post even though it is somewhat regurgitated but most everything is.
The third reason is because this is his first attempt at submitting to Sphinn and I'd like to make him feel at home. I think he has some potential if he keeps things up and continues to learn; one thing I've learned about Jeremy is that he adapts pretty well and has some crazy ideas once in awhile.
I was hoping it would take up the last 5 - 10 minutes of my day before leaving the office. I didn't score very highly on this one!
I'm sure this test will be good for a great laugh for a period of time. Good job!
My apologies, this has already been Sphunn by g1smd at: http://sphinn.com/story/6873
And David, I care if they can revive themselves or at least help us get through all the talk that has been going on about them.
Hello again David,
I have to be sheepishly honest when I say that I just discovered that site moments before I noticed your comment. A co-worker pointed it out.
For me personally I just want a faster review process and easier ability to modify listings if I should need to. The corruption, the inability to keep up with the thousands of listings… those are all a concern as well.
I’m thinking their attempt at a blog is a way to hold on to our hopes just a little longer. Regardless the motives behind the blog, I hope they will take it and us seriously.
Though I agree, the next best thing would be to monetize it and make some money off of it before it sinks.
Hey Jason,
Are you saying that we are better people? ... ok I'll agree with that!
