Just what IS all this 'SEO Rockstar' nonsense? There's people out there in all industries who spend their time branding themselves as experts; there's people out there just doing the damn work.

All this 'rockstar' stuff is utterly irrelevant and unhelpful. It doesn't help the SEM industry that it has attracted the kind of fanboys that were best ignored at The Smiths gigs in the 80s.

Are we really still having this debate. I remember arguing in favour of using the company name in title tags on Doug Heil's forums about 5 years ago. I use it on the homepage, contact and about pages for all my clients and my own sites and have done for over half a decade.

Well, there's a surprise. I'm with Jeeb90 - a paid, closed source version is the way to go. I'd pay just to avoid the tediousness of updating my WordPress blogs every 27 minutes or so.

I agree 100% with this article. I hate any kind of interference or dictation by third parties in what I do with my websites. If I want to use WordPress, then I don't want to be strong armed into using the version that suits someone else, anymore than I want to have to speed up the loading times of landing pages because Google thinks it's a good idea.

I KNOW what's best for my sites and my business.

Loved this. It's all so true, although I don't think my family think I'm scum. Interesting choice of pic to illustrate that point though, particularly as I live within spitting distance of the original village of Borstal.

RSS feeds generated by your social bookmarks and social media contributions are one of those things that are easily neglected and, as the article suggests, are well worth promoting in their own right.

However, I just wonder how much this is adding noise to an increasingly crowded arena. As InfusionJoe suggests, there needs to be a value add for visitors in order for this to be worthwhile.

I was expecting this to be the usual tiresome 'what to look for in an SEO firm' type thing, but I'll be using these questions when I'm looking for a new in-house SEO for my company.

Loved #2 - that's the kind of thing that separated the men from the sheep.

"A real SEO expert would rather show interesting failures, for instance a case of very high competitiveness in which he used special expertise and ingenuity but the budget allocated by the client proved to be insufficient for achieving and/or maintaining the top ranking."

I'm not sure I follow your logic here. Are you suggesting that 'a real SEO' is defined by his or her failure to succeed and blame someone else for that failure?

That's not my idea of a 'real' SEO.

I read this, then lost the will to live. Um, who actually cares which clients people use to Twitter. Seriously - what is the value in knowing this. Even the author doesn't seem to know.

Add this to the list of reasons I think Twitter is possibly the internet's most useless app.

Perversely, though, this stuff seems just as legitimate a use for it as any other.

The main downside of starting a blog for money is surely the fact that lots of other people are doing it and there is no reason why anyone should keep coming back to your blog when they have several thousand others to choose from. Reader loyalty is the real holy grail for making your blog a financial success.

I guess this is an April Fool. It's a pretty good one.

I particularly liked this:

"Asked if they had considered Movable Type, Mr. Schmidt replied with a succinct “No.”"

This type of thing is one of the basic flaws with the whole 'authority' site idea as a cornerstone of any algorithm. Anyone remember the time when search engines used to rank web pages rather than websites?

If this is an April Fools joke, it isn't very funny. Ho hum.

I don't know about anyone else, but I really miss the real Google Dance. It added a certain level of satisfaction to this whole SEO stuff. Let's face it, SEO isn't as fun as it used to be.

An extra ten minutes. Wow. How generous. I don't see this making a huge difference, but we'll see.

I'm not sure about the point of this article. The nature of an algorithm is that the nearer you get to the top, the more difficult it is to get any higher. There's no 'artificial' barrier there.

I don't see how this is much different from Shoutwire, for example where both 'shouts' and 'bashes' can contribute to an article reaching the homepage.
