I said this in a comment on the post, but people don't seem to be catching on to how important it is:
"The other big factor is the learning. Ive learned so much and been inspired to do so many more things online. You cannot put a price on that."
A debate about the most ethical way to game a system...
It just keeps going because people keep inter changing the word "right" with "best branding/marketing strategy".
What is being discussed is "best branding/marketing strategy", where other peoples concept of "right" is 1 factor.
Can't believe I got sucked in.
Ok. This is the 1st post I've submitted that contains "sucks" in the title....
Fair points, although the affiliate link is to bluehost which is the current shared hosting I am still using.
Yeah it is a great article from Performancing. I think we could all learn something from this.
Story: Sphinn Now Out of Beta
Great!
I don't how this idea with be viewed.. but perhaps a way to stop people submitting massive large numbers of stories in a few minutes. Some users seem to be flooding the upcoming section, making it impossible for stories just a few minutes old to go hot.

Harith, yes that's what I mean, but perhaps more than 1-2 per day. More like 2-3 max on the upcoming page at any one time.
While we are on backwards talk, seofactor, do not ever get an avatar. :P
Story: 4 Blogging Laws I DoFollow
You are exactly right, I'm glad you like the aritlce.
This is a great list, opinionated of course (e.g. john chow hating) but wouldn’t life be boring if people didn't speak their mind.
The fact that someone with a 'good reputation' Submits, or even sphinns a story increases the chances of hit hitting page1 without any algorithmic change. "Avatar watch" is something we all do naturally and rewards an active Sphinner in exact relation to their activity, because that is how their reputation is built. Tweaking the system so a vote is literally worth more skews this their popularity way out of proportion.
I'm quite surprised there are not a whole load of commentors saying things like "It's not only about the money, if you don't give lots to the community you are not welcome". Those things are all obvious. For some reason a lot of people have a problem with addmiting (to themselves?) the real reasons why they are doing what they do.
Story: Top 20 Sphinn Users
Now that is cool.
I have written only 1 article on SEO... is that enough? Several on SMO and other traffic driving methods...
Fingers crossed ;) but not too tightly.
I did touch upon the niches that Sphinn is aimed at:
"What is so great about Sphinn is it is full of bloggers and so if you are in the blogging, make money online, SEO or social media niches you don’t need to dramatically change your title to suit the audience which saves you from alienating your loyal readership, which is what digg often requires."
I thought it was too obvious to make it into an actual point on it's own, buy yes that is a very valid point.
Not discouraged, but not encouraged to submit too many. Marc kindly did it before I even had a chance.
Haha!!!! That is sooooo hilarious! I don't know if I can resist posting that on Blogging Fingers... Everyone who sees it will love it.. :D
I recently had a page1 on netscape and it only sent about 400 uniques despite rising up very far up the page. That was at a weekend though but even so it's not enough given it got over 60 votes.
