i view it more as "reporting" than encouraging its use. many people are  not even aware that such things occur.

Your own personal ethics and tolerance for risk should determine what techniques you employ for each individual campaign

and unfortunately, i have had to apply this technique in the past, late in the campaign , due to fears that there were too many link exchanges going on with that particular site.

KISS is to be applied to everything, especially things which are complex to begin with.

snitching on this site was probably not worth alerting SEO's to this basic technique

this reminds us that the only thing that is constant is change, but many of us understand this all to well in this profession.  many other industries could take a lesson from this though, adapt or die

Yeah Boris,

the concept is definately good. i personally believe people like to see reviews of things they are interested in.

traditional magazine and newpaper reviews are soo corrupt at this point and scewed towards their advertisers its crazy.

and I am sure companies will pay people to make online reviews in their favor, but the one honest negative review that comes in usually is all we need.

btw, my perspective is skewed, i just started CongressRatings.com cause if any group needs some reviewing by real people it is our wonderfully effective politicians, lol

if an actual human being combs through that data to provide us a garbage free page, then it should not be considered scraping or spam.  "Google / Cheney 08" better apply that handbook to all of their adsense publishers first before even stepping foot on the internet

if a page is robotically compiled, contains useless data and provides little value to the visitor then we call it ....       .....a standard site these days.

mahalo is building upon the lessons we all learned with wikipedia and applying even more human intelligence to the formula.  a formula in which a key factor is time, because mahalo pages actually improve over time like most wiki pages

its not that shady considering....

ever play monolopy with a spoiled kid who, wants to change the rules of the game in his favor, while he is currently playing, and he was winning to begin with.

i can only pray that GoogleBush squanders that trillion dollar market cap

If SEL didnt sound the trumpets, some other site would have.  And Ultimately, it was WIRED, in their infinite technical wisdome, made such a massive error.

Its another case of, "We know everyting already," so why bother learning anything more.

...and this comes from a long-time wired fan

"....public vote on how to deal with the anti-Google rhetoric"  sounds like Saddam holding mock elections.

Freedom of speech does not apply to Google and their intoxication with power?

The emperor wants to hang dissidents...but I hear a lynch mob rumbling.

"...Matt's job is tough..." haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa - tell that to 18 year old GI's who are getting killed or blue-collar workers or people whose jobs involve actual work

Google's rush to diversify their business model proves their fear of being toppled in the search market.

they should merge with microsoft and move their headquarters to Dubai or North Korea

how is that for anti-google rethoric

experts in many fields think they know everything.

anyone who thinks they know everything about SEO is narrow-minded.

being an expert here requires constant education, testing and arguments with peers.  lol

and the humility to keep an open mind so you can process new information properly and not disregard it because of a false pre-concieved notion

He obviously does not understand the complexity of the very thing he is publically speculating about.

did anyone ever formulate a moore's type law for the increasing complexity of search marketing?

...results have not changed since '04?
this dude is in the twilight zone.

these days we have to be on top of mobile search, image search, video search, local search, international search and whatever else will come out tomorrow or next week or an hour from now.

it probably was considered simple years ago when he was last able to wrap his head around it.

we have to be aware of every process that happens bettween server response time to the focus group / user reaction.

as a developer i was only responsible for a few of the steps in this process...

when people are searching for their groceries from thier refridgerator door computer which is enabled with "just in time delivery," I will be there analyzing their search behaviour in real-time Jakob.

lol, your a funny old dude Jakob...

This article was not really big news to sphinn users, but it should convert many of the remaining old-tymers who were not hip to it before, or did not know at all.

But with google's share price at approx. $650, most of their readers probably touched on the concept of SEM already.

The forbes demographic represents "market movers," executive management (CEO's) and the millionaire types.  Which is good news for us, cause demand increases, supply diminishes and bigger opportunities arise.

So, many thanks to Andy Greenberg for continuing to educate billionaires about online marketing and Google.
