It will always be sfin to me. Spin just does not sound right. I really thought Danny was trying to be funny. spin is not funny or even clever. I understand it is an action like digg. You want us to spin the vote wheel or something. I just really thing sfin is cool and funny. It is more fun to say and is different enough that it is not confusing. Saying spin.com will also cause problems saying it verbally. I have always said you should never pick a url you have to explain or spell out. I guess pronouncing sfin breaks that rule too. I just don't get the web 2.0 rule of making sure you lose type in traffic with a non phonetic domain name.

Every time I do an SEO evaluation I always find myself mentioning usability. I can't stop myself. When I see a site that 302 redirects traffic to the front page that would normally be 404 I tell them that is bad for seo. I then really want to go into how they should create a custom 404 page that trys to guess what the visitor was looking for.

I use the seoquake add on for firefox to get a lot of the information the article talks about. One thing he did not mention is checking to see if site is properly split into sections. Keep internal links inside their section. This is called siloing.

This list is really just a cheat sheet for a professional SEO. Somebody who is not experienced would not know what to do with several of the points without further explanation. SEO is not just a checklist. There are many factors that are dynamic. There is no such thing as a perfect URL. There are pros and cons for each method. You have to understand those to make that decision. When it comes to URL's you have to watch out for anything that will return the same content from 2 url's. This can be session ID's are just a poorly designed back end.

The article covered redirection but only mentioned it in relation to the front page. Watch out for 302 found redirects. Also it is very important to add noindex, nofollow to pages with hardly any content or search pages. Some sites will have different ways to list content like by name or date. This is redundant. Make sure the 404 page is disallowed in the robots.txt.

Some of SEO is easy but there is a lot to look at specially on a large ecommerce site.

I site can do quite well without paid links of any kind. A site can do quite well without directory submissions. To do this you have to have a really good site that is helpful. and you have to put a lot of work into it.
