An excellent post by Bill that's a must read for those engaged in small business activities. Getting active in the commuity can have far reaching benifits for ones business, especially when the involvement is not intended soley to improve ones profits.

Happy Birthday!
Story: Happy 1st Birthday, Sphinn!
Like the heatmap screenshots. Want to find an app to screen shot some pages I have been studying.
Story: The New Sphinn Blog Launches
@evilgreenmonkey wow, you must really be busy. Blog should be a great edition.

@Burgo No pun intended. Not paying attention. Also failed to notice Michelle should be getting credit. All Rob needs to do now is develop some sort of multi-source sentence array (like pull the first sentence from each article that goes hot), run it through a script, and those Sunday posts will be a breeze. :)
I hope KeyRelevance has an all expenses paid bonus package to Venice, CA so you can celebrate with In-n-Out burgers. Congrats Matt!
Recently recorded a call (they called a marketing line) from a telemarketer that wanted $1800.00 per month to rank my site #1 for an industry keyword. Claimed they "worked for" Google.
Jumped from twitter to here to see if it was submitted. While it's not flash, I'm wondering about large pdf files. I have some searchable magazines (100mb pdfs) and I'm concerned they are too big to load if clicked on.
Jeff has done some good videos on behalf of USA Today. More nice work with this one.
Story: Happy Birthday Lisa Barone!
Checked it out. Like Matt said not much data for small business sites. There was some data for my site and other major sites in my industry but info is limited. Will be watching more closely.
Thanks for doing this Barry. I was set to listen and got called into the office early. Great to discover this at the end of the day.
HaHa, I thought I was the only one seeing that. Figured it was a problem with my css (or lack of).
I'd like to first say SMX has provided the BEST search related events I've attended over the past 10+ years. Everyone from the folks at Sphinn, the SMX team, the speakers, and the attendees, have been open armed and provided a valuable enviornment for sharing knowledge.
I loved SMX Advanced, I loved that there were topics covered not being discussed elsewhere, I loved the ideas I came away with.
If anything, I felt I had a better understanding of what kinds of activities take place online. As someone who gets many questions from people in an industry barely aware of good vs. bad practices (something I think is quite common), I felt more confident in determining what services to (and not to) recommend to small business owners that contact me.
Your blog looks even better now with great posts on it like this one. :)
I felt I learned a lot of valuble stuff at Advanced in Seattle. Most importantly was a better understanding of the benefits of repairing lenghtly seo unfriendly urls and session ids. Also was great to see friends.
I have to say that I liked what I heard at SMX Advanced, regardless of how one wants to color it. What I did appreciate was that there was balance in the days (Tuesday) discusions. It was like going to a trial and being presented two sides of a story.
I have a site that has long been plagued by horridly long urls and even session ids. The presentation of "white hat" cloaking made sense... until I was reminded later in the day that there was a better way to fix a problem I was responsible for in the first place. That turns out to be a better long term plan imo.
HaHa, I almost hit the spam button innately after seeing "real estate" in the title. I looked at the url and noticed it was SEL so checked it out. Read the 1st paragraph and thought "this author is dead on" and then I saw who it was. :P
Excellent post Matt!
Story: Are You Plurking Yet?
How could one not be plurking with all the invites on twitter, email, and elsewhere?

and a simple find and replace script can change the domain name on moved content rather quickly. Kind of leaves the cons list limited.
Thanks to those that answered my tweet requests for what you like to drink. A few observations that didn't make it to the list include: have an ice cold Diet Coke available for Danny Sullivan, chilled red bull for Michael Gray, and Heineken for Neil Patel.
Cheers!
