Ignorance or are they just trying to push their luck? Reminds me of folks posting link requests way back then in WMW, etc
Webpronews did a post about this last week (a little more general than just FaceBook - Tamar has some decent stats for FaceBook i see), probably the only reason i remembered, was the fact South Africa had a decent mention in their report :) Great to see where the users spend most of their time in SMN's
Fun little toy to play around with... quite interesting to see the most common words, you really would assume search blogs would be talking about "search engine marketing" or "SEO" most of the time
Story: When being funny, isn’t
It's always a bit tough to think how what you might find funny, someone else won't, almost a little hard to gage how far you can take your joke in a post, or article
I think the word "penalty" is simply just used to describe something frowned upon with Google. We call them penalties, or at least i use it as a covering word, to emphasize how it would be the wrong approach. Like duplicate content, etc, not going to get de-indexed, but pages simply won't be included or ignored. So why do it.
The same goes for all the other various "penalties", besides your old school doorway pages, the "hardcore" rule breaking tactics.
Short term gains VS long term gains. A business cannot rely on simple looking short term, it's a killer. Same goes for the SEM industry.
Just a phone number?
Not sure if i would include optimising for phone numbers to an SEM strategy, however, just on a suggestion level to clients and any website, to cover the contact basics... physical address, email, phone number... all web searchers are different, some like to call, some prefer email, and catering for all of them just adds that extra bit to the site (what if you you google their street name?). I personally would not buy or think of buying from a site that the only way of contacting them is through an online form or mobile number...
Nice post Cait,
So true, all the small things regarding websites all add up together, if one step is below quality, it can have an effect to the overall site without you knowing it
I Sphunn it. However, personally these issues are not new, been around for ages. Ranting about Wikipedia almost feels like the old days of venting about Dmoz all the time and the issues.
A topic goes hot (because of the submitter) and people think “oh that’s a hot topic, I think I’ll write about it” and the next thing you know, there’s five mundane posts on the same topic.
So so true, it pains me to filter through all of that just to find something that's fallen below due to the "paraphrasing" and really find something interesting/new and challenging.
Let's not forget creating a "door" to possible discussion/interaction/feedback with the content as well

True... then add the fact that many assume that "call to actions" are pretty pictures with specials etc. Copy also help drive a person to where you want them to go, the same as Telesales, asking the right questions to get the answer you want :)
