Thanks for the post Danny - I am actually a huge Carlin fan myself.

PS: There were actually 10 words on the list but the last 3 did not make the cut for some reason:
8. Fart
9. Turd
10. Twat
That is a very good point.
I tried to do some financial trending for some 'other' dot-com's using hitwise data when it first arrived on the scene as there is a direct correlation between traffic & revenue for most ecommerce properties which, voila, influences share price; too bad the data was never 100%.

Story: VIDEO: Paid Search 101 Rap
Doh, I spun the same video, pls feel free to remove my Sphinn:

-RL
PS: I did search for 'paid search 101 rap' b4 submitting:
http://sphinn.com/search.php?search=paid+search+101+rap
...didnt see this post in the SERPs.
We actually got started optimizing Yahoo! Stores back in the day for some of their largest customers at the time (Callaway Golf, American Apparel, etc); it's a nice little cottage industry.
Once you figure out how to influence the html code they spit out using their RTML templates, a Yahoo! Store can quickly and effectively rank well in a short amount of time.
PS: @Andy - I didn't know you were involved with Volusion.
Gunjan - did you try searching with the plus sign (+) before the link commands?
Examples:
The following identifies all links to the Sphinn home page: +link:sphinn.com
The following identifies links to ALL pages within Sphinn.com: +linkdomain:sphinn.com

WOW, this would be a much bigger story if you actually got the punchline:
"Founded in 1996, Visual Sciences, Inc. (formerly known as WebSideStory, Inc.)
(NASDAQ: VSCN) is a leading provider of real-time analytics applications."
Any ole timer in this biz knows WebSideStory from their flagship product, HitBox.

PS: Wanna get in the analytics biz? I hear that you can buy WebTrends and CoreMetrics on the cheap!
:)(:
Anecdotally, yes, it seems odd.
Quantitatively the list is based on percentage growth in gross revenue from 2002-2006 and we are talking about intervals in the 10,000's of percents.
We just moved into a new office down in Irvine and I cannot even begin to describe my trip down there yesterday (I have been an LA 'native' for over a decade so I am now commuting to the OC office a few days a week). It reminded me of the scene in The Matrix just after the humans intentionally scorched the earth to prevent the machines from accessing the sun to create solar power, right before they discovered a new living thermal energy source to extract power from (ie us).
The disgusting part about the whole situation is how arsonists intentionally lit five separate fires to get their rocks off…unbelievable!
there are some crazy slideshows on the local news sites:

I am just really glad the smoke finally cleared so I could get out and ride some bikes with my family again.

PS: @Danny - I could have sworn I saw you on the strand this weekend (I have a rental up on 17th street) and was going to say 'ello but didn't want to disturb the pumpkin carving party :).
LOL!
I really wanted to you but you looked pretty busy scoopin' out them pumpkin guts :)(:
I hoped you enjoyed your vacation.

"do you think that the fact that SEL is so high profile, and the fact that you blogged about the Stanford Daily on there, had anything to do with them being one of the sites in the subset that got hit?"
Coincidence? Me thinks yes.
I would love to see examples of other sites that are not in the limelight as much as Google's Alma Mater.
Why not make an example of the TL brokers/industry enablers themselves?
Or would that be too hypocritical.
@me - I found an example of a very old resource site (an authority on a particular OS) that has been publicly referenced for selling links to poker sites (contextually irrelevant) and will keep an eye on their PR (it's still a 9 :).
Hey Derek,
Despite Mr Jones claims, this was officially announced 'Inside Adwords' blog a couple days ago:
http://adwords.blogspot.com/2007/09/new-cpa-bidding-product-available.html
I also sphunn a rumor about this tool (code named 'Google Business Rules') a month and a half ago:

PS: I suspect a drop in OMTR once this news finally hits 'the street' for all you short sellers out there :).
PSS: I hope to have some more inside intel to share with y'all again soon!
Me likes and thinks it's, well, DELICIOUS!
Those dots were always very confusing and spoke out (to me) as 'Delete Us'.
Story of my life!
However:
-It was a TI-81 not C64
-I prefer my high end Beemer over an Aston (compare the maintenance packages)
-JW Blue label is a waste of money...visit Scotland firsthand and try some REAL Islay or Highland Single Malt instead of a blend
-Not ready for rugrats (just yet)
-I actually graduated from a few schools :)

I found the latter article to be VERY interesting after picking up a hard copy of The Economist today. Here is my submission:

I personally do not play the market anymore but would be VERY concerned about this move if a were a shareholder.
‘This is healthy ’
It really is. Experience aside, I am 5-10 years behind the 'top bloggers' but do have a lot to say and it is literally up to you, the reader, to tell me and our fellow Sphinners what you want to hear by Sphinning it, or not.
We won't be offended :).
"I know that this guide is short, and probably not what you may have expected."
Yeah right!
Great work Michelle - your 'short list' is extremely comprehensive.
um, yeah one of these days I will have to start adding to DS's long list of things Google has done over the years to warrant a new tag line:
'Be Evil'
This is exactly why Yahoo! is going to be around for a very, very long time.
This type of post really begs the questions: what's Google 2.0?
Today it's your iphone (fully integrated with Google search), tomorrow a Google branded iphone: giphone.
Maybe even an official g-man badge to go with it :).
IMHO we need to stop obsessing over 'search share' and start focusing on Mind Share or share of Online Voice when evaluating a company's true market value.
From there it's really up to these online media companies to figure out a way to monetize their true voice; something Google is very, very good at.
-RL
I am having sphund-ja vous.
:).
Seriously though, it sounds like it is time for the ole 'we think this story has already been sphunn' feature that we all know and love from you-know-where.
Hey ‘Searchquant’ (sorry I don’t like anonymous profiles),
The tool is in beta and yes it is capable of optimizing Google Adwords, although I would only use it or any other rules based ‘bid management’ tools for that manner to manage longtail terms.
In my experience I have also only seen one of these tools actually work, but only to meet a CPA/CPO or ROAS goal (ie business rule); as you pointed out we are dealing with opaque bid landscapes so the ability to ‘bid jam’, ‘stay in a preferred position’, etc type management rule has gone the way of AltaVista.
-RL
PS: I am putting this out there to see if other Sphinners have more details on the tool in beta; it’s a ‘show me yours’ post :).
I'd love to join my fellow Sphinners for lunch!
-RL
PS: I just booked my flight, anyone got a spare day pass (hint, hint :)?
