I wonder how accurate these estimates are. I know they're supposed to be estimates; but I've always wondered about how close Google's estimates are to actuality. I'd like to see if anyone monitors their actual impressions vs. the search volume numbers and posts results a month from now.
These are some great tips for trying out Adwords content ads again, if you've been burned in the past.
Great advice! Being too clever can actually be a detriment to your campaigns. I think the overall lesson here is to KISS (keep it simple...you know the rest).
Thanks for the heads up Barry! Will you be posting a follow up once your questions are asked? I'd certainly like to find out how long is too long when it comes to QS - of course, I wouldn't be surprised if Google gave you a pretty vague answer to that.
Will there be a special wedding logo on the Google homepage this weekend?
I've always wondered about Google Base...I submit content, but how is it indexed in Google? Are links you create in Google Base good for your overall SEO linkbuilding strategy, or is it just a way to get more exposure?
The point about relying too much on social media is good advice. In our link building campaigns, we've been making that mistake. Social bookmarking sites, although still valuable in other ways, place the dreaded nofollow on their pages, so it's unfortunately not the most viable method of link building.
One thing not mentioned are other requirements for the GAP program. I'm an in-house PPC manager, and I tried to get into the program; however, the credit card we were using at the time on our account had the name of my former boss on it, who apparently is a GAP herself. I could not get into the program because of this. The credit card was changed after she left, and I tried to get in again. Now I can't because our developer is associated with the account as a Client Manager (for the API) - which you have to be in order to become a GAP, and which you can't have more than one of on a single account.
I've never liked broad match, personally; however, it works for some and not for others (I just fall into the latter camp). I'm not sure why anyone would use broad match exclusively and just keep adding negative keywords - sounds like too much work. Would it not be easier and more efficient to just PM everything to better target? Sure, you still have to add negatives, but you won't have to be at it nearly as much.
I'm interested in whether Stumbleupon and delicious have any plans to create social bookmarking "vertical" sites (someone should come up with a term for that) specifically focused and built for certain areas of interest (i.e. small business).
Well, obviously it works if you have different content posted on your site every day or week and you stumble that.
This is an excellent article - I've known for a little while that my Google campaigns needed some "spring cleaning", but since I'm the only one managing PPC campaigns (in addition to all else marketing), plus I manage them manually (no bid management system), it's hard to find enough time. Great advice!
In my opinion, the "Web 2.0" look and feel with all sorts of bells and whistles is a tad overrated. Sure, it works very well with B2C sites and audiences that may be a little ADD due to media overload; however, the old adage KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) holds true when targeting a B2B audience. Moreover, even certain B2B verticals (for instance, the vertical I'm in, which is the wholesale industry) should keep things as absolutely simple and straightforward as possible. It all comes down to knowing your audience - just because it looks pretty and has a lot of cool podcasts and videos, does not mean they'll be in anyway engaged by it.
