Sphinn was not on the list becuase it gets less traffic than the other sites. at least according to Quantcast.com
Frank, the approach we took was to raise awareness first, so that is why we went with Digg and SU. Lots of traffic, some links and that was about it.
What we are doing now, is working within the niche, which is what it sounds like you are doing. It is not as sexy as getting popular on Digg, but in the ling run it will provide better results.

Marty, the source for the original post was http://www.insidecrm.com/features/facebook-marketing-toolbox-012308/
The source for the stats was

Both of these sites were linked to within my post

Good question Briian. Target did not break out the conversions specific to the Facebook campaign. Instead they said that their back-to-school campaigns in their entirety helped lift sales 6.1 percent in August 2007 compared to August 2006.
By the way, the cost of the Facebook campaign was about $500,000.

Ryanol, I view social media campaigns as I would an advertising campaign. Does this social network reach the audience that I am trying to reach? StumbleUpon and Sphinn do, so I spend time on them. MySpace and SecondLife do not so I ignore then. It is all about finding the audience that is right for you and your business. That is why people have mixed success on social networks. It is all about finding the right ones for your company or web site.
Maybe Matt could take a break from hunting for paid links and look into how this kind of spam keeps showing up in the Google SERPS
Great article Loren. The patents from Google and Yahoo seem to indicate that social media will continue to influence the SERPS for the foreseeable future
Brett, this is a really well laid out post on how to be successful on Digg.
Some great ideas here Tamar, especially the part about creating an advertising contact page for your blog. My to-do list just a little bigger.

Measuring the effectiveness of a social media has been a topic that has generated a lot of conversation in the last 12 months. This calculator should be part of that discussion.
This is great article of how using everyday sources to identify trends and how topics are being positioned.

Thank you for the positive comments ViperChill. I am glad that you like the blog.

I agree completely with blogging about your experiences you have in social communities. To often we read "theory' post without someone giving a real life example of what they did and the results that they saw.
