I'd kind of worked this out quite some time ago but its nice to see someone blogging about it.
Its worked for me on blogs AND client websites.
Story: Can SEO Be Automated?
Can an automated program have the intuition/sixth sense a human does. Can automated SEO be just as creative? If it easily stands out as automated SEO will Google et all treat the pages it optimises as spam?
You could start by showing and discussing your own successes online - dangle that in front of him/her and see their response. Admit to them its a competitive world and work and money is involved...
If something you love doing becomes a chore you need to re-evaluate why it is you are doing it and change. This guy made the right decision.
I strongly disagree with Facebook doing this for one reason. You have to log in and THEN opt out otherwise your profile is public (what even AFTER you previously set it private???)
Why not make it user friendly and let us OPT - IN to have our profiles indexed and public?
We all in the SEO industry have heard about it... I've yet it to see it on the national UK news circuit so how many hapless Facebook users is this going to affect?
I've restricted my Facebook account from being made public on search engines. My private life is just that, private (not that I have anything to hide mind you!)
Story: SEO Isn't That Hard
Post mentions about using anchor text in the name field on people's blogs - not something I agree with as it looks like a spammy attempt at link dropping. Apart from that an interesting read.
Lyndon I am a real fan of your headlines. :)
Who else would think up raspberry smoothie roundup (sounds highly appealing yum yum!)
Yup nice bully boy tactics really go down well. Not.
I love companies that like to make threats on others that comment about them. Still does it un-nerve you (even slightly)?
"I tend to think that most of the people I've never heard of are beginners trying to get their names out there"
So what do you suggest these people do then? Yes some posts are basic but everyone has to start somewhere and I'm always up for giving those who try a break.
Sometimes the SEO industry does seem a little exclusive - which tends to put me off it, though its no different to any other club or group of people I guess...
I've been around a while in the SEM industry quietly doing my own thing for 5 years plus, rather than getting my name out there and being "seen". Just because I am not an SEO Cause Celeb doesn't make me an SEO nobody...
I say keep it, its fun having the tool around for when prospective clients are hung up on it and I can then demonstrate that low pr sites I work on can be found for serious numbers of keywords.
It would be nice to see if Google's tool bar was taken away what other tool(s) people would begin to obsess over... maybe one right now that's just waiting in the wings???
I paid someone else to design my website though I carried out the optimisation, link building and content creation. Has it been worth it? Definitely in some cases I am getting 2 to 3 enquiries an hour... not bad for a "one man band".
It did take quite some time planning what was going to be written and not all went exactly to plan but to say I am satisfied is an understatement.
I managed the project by treating the requirements as an external client project and scheduling it in as I would any other job (and then sticking to it!)
Story: The SEO Invasion of Facebook
I haven't used Facebook exclusively in connection with the SEO Community though I joined a lot of SEO groups and have failed to be active. I sent out a few friend requests in the SEO community and had some back so its nice to be recognised online... lets see if "Friendships" on facebook can help you get recognised (or at least acknowledged as to who you are)from some of the Big(ger) Guns at SEO conferences and shows.....
